I'm yet to have a look at the newer one and see how different it is from previous.

Since there is a high amount of friction involved due to the way the cable is routed with lot of bends, frequent lubrication may be needed in FZ's case. What surprises me is that many people (I've checked with other FZ owners who came for servicing) are changing their cables within initial 15-20k kms (which I believe is not so with other bikes) without any questions

^^ Yup. 15-20k kms is quite frequent.

My Fazer also had starting issues. After a long drive, the bike wouldn't start and the starter will be completely dead. The battery was perfectly fine and all other electrical systems would work without any issues. Service people said it might be due to a loose contact of the battery terminals. After a 2nd opinion with another mechanic, it turned out to be starter capacitor issue.

Got the starter capacitor replaced under warranty.
Rs. 130 for a clutch cable?? sounds fishy. Genuine Yamaha Clutch cable comes as a set along with the plastic/rubber cable cover and not the steel cable alone..costs around 85 bucks in Yamaha SVC in Mumbai inclusive of all taxes. Considering Mumbai having the highest taxes besides Blore.. i believe you have been taken for a ride. The only reason the clutch cable would snap if it has not been installed correctly or else the bike was pressure washed frequently and no lubing was done or else a fake one was put in.. Otherwise, i haven't heard of anyone in our thread for Yamaha FZ/Fazer having a clutch cable snapping incident.

Usual expected life of the cable is around 15-20,000 kms.

        Cheers,
