  • Urgent help regarding pulsar 150...New to biking

    urgent help needed xBhpians..
bought an oct 2009 pulsar ug 4 two months ago...i immediately changed d spark plugs, engine oil (power one...not that bad), got cleaned the air filter, fuel tank and carburetor etc...however, m facing two problems...

    1. the bike does not idle at all before the engine runs for at least 6 mins(in other words warms up a lot)...i think that's too long...and if i leave the bike even for one hour, i gotta warm the engine up/ride it again for 5/6 mins for it to idle...the idle setting is set for 1300...and i tried to tune the engine(by setting the idle screw at 4000 after riding 10/11 kms, then turning the a/f screw fully clockwise then slowly anti-clockwise to achieve a constant rpm)..but rpm guage does not show constant rpm..the needle remains shaky from all the way in to all the way out...that's why i kept it at 2.5 turns(the factory setting)...the mechanics in our area does not know how to tune the engine properly (hvn't tried BAS though...hv heard they are not any gud either)..that's why i had to give it a try myself ...i dont think it has a vacuum leak as it idles fine after it warms up...

    2. while riding, the bike sometimes suddenly loses speed and the engine gains rpm...i gotta chop the throttle, pull the clutch in and shift the gears down up or up then down to (to remain in the same gear...or jus up or down to) gain 'throttle control'...it happens mostly in 3rd and 4th gears and sometimes in 5th as well....may be just cuz the bike remains mostly in those gears thn having any direct connection with the problem...does the fork need to be replaced??

m only a 500 km old biker and this is my first post..of course i cant fix the bike myself but i dont wanna rely completely on not-so-expert mechanics and their trial and error method..please help!!!!!

I don't know a lot about bikes but here's my 2 cents. I think the second problem that you mentioned is caused because your gear is slipping. I have a 2011 P150 and this also used to happen to me mostly in 4th and 5th gear. The reason it used to happen is, because I was new to riding and i used to not put adequate amount of force while changing the gears. Once, I started putting adequate amount of force while changing gears the problem stopped happening.

thanks a lot easy rider...advice taken...it may really b the case: i use toe shifting, and ya m a bit soft specially while upshifting...or may be my rubber sole is rubbin against the gear lever causing d gears to slip at constant speeds...gotta try ur 'formula'

bt any solution to my first problem xbhpians??? it is a real nuisance!!!!!!!!!!!

Your bike tuning is not problem as your RPM needle is shaky when idle, it shows your bike is running lean. i.e more air and less petrol. You need to pump in more petrol, there are 2 screws in our bike one is Air screw which we normally use for idling and other is Fuel screw which is normally set when we do servicing, the mechanic at SC do the setting. The other screw is on the cabureter just above the overflow screw to the left-hand side.IF you are new to it then you can ask your mechanic to tuning the petrol screw.

thanks rakowli...bt i did try giving the fuel screw full three n half turns n then after some days four turns as experimentation...bt that dint help either...chckd d color of spark plug and it was almost pitch black (rich mixture i guess)...bt as i started getting FE of 40 i returned the screw to its factory setting, that is 2.5 turns if m not wrong...sigh
