    Apache RTR180(Regular) - Starter Relay damaged

    Hello All,

    I have been a proud owner of Apache 180 from the past 3 months.
    The bike has been great so far and I have done around 3000kms on it without any problems, until yesterday.
    I had just completed the second free servicing from TVS.
    Along with my friends we planned a ride to my hometown which is approximately 160kms, we were riding our bikes sedately at the speeds of around 70kmph-100kmph.
    After about 50 km of ride we took a stop for filling up fuel, to my disappointment my bike refused to start with the self-starter button.
    It makes some humming sound when I press the self-start button.
    I tried the kick-start and even my friends tried but to no avail, finally we found a mechanic who had come for the fill at the petrol pump.
    He volunteered to help, and he got the bike started in just one kick.
    Then he checked battery, fuse etc. & told me that the starter-relay is damaged and i will have to get it replaced.
    I have some questions for the biker here-
    1. 1. Will I get the starter relay replaced under warranty or i have to pay for it?
    2. 2. I am still unsure about the reason for the damage, Can anyone help me on that please?(My friend suggested that it happened because i have been riding the bike too rashly)
    3. 3. Has any Apache owner had this problem so early?(i mean within 3 months)
    4. 4. My bike heats up too quickly and i can feel the heat on my feet, is this normal?


    Please guys help me out, i am really worried if i have really screwed up the bike by rash riding..

      Please take a look at this link, and read the post #7114. Our fellow XBhp member "Makky" stated that he replaced the STARTER RELAY under warranty along with a couple of other things.

      I could provide u with the price of the STARTER RELAY anyway, as i have changed it very recently (about 3 weeks back) on my 180.

      Part No: N9160920 - Rs. 558 + Rs. 81 (Tax 14.5%) = Rs. 639 + Rs. 50 (labour)
      Every BIKE has a lot of speed in it. The trick is getting the speed out of it.

        Check the relay terminals by removing the connecting wires , if there is some from of acid / carbon try to clean the relay terminals , better way by using WD40 .
        Or get it replaced from your service center under warrenty , if they refuse then force them as your bike is under warrenty .

          A starter relay dosent get damaged by rash driving .
          As your starter is making humming sound it means that there is some lose contact problem in the relay/terminals or it could be a weak battery also.
          Get the relay changed and see if it solves your problem by the ASC under warranty..

            New issue - With battery

            Hello Bikers,

            Sorry for updating late but i dont get to access x-bhp too often.

            Thanks for your quick responses.
            @shoeb - I got my bike checked at the TVS service center & they confirmed that the relay was fine but the battery went kaput.
            I had to take the battery to exide dealer as the TVS ASS doesn't deal with battery issues, is this true?
            It has been 2 weeks but my new battery is still not delivered & the guy at the exide dealership told that i'll have to wait for another week.

            The engine of my bike was heating too much as i had mentioned in the earlier post. Later i realised that the tools in the tool kit beneath the seat had went loose & were stuck near the rear tyre maybe near air filter..
            I had driven the bike in that condition for nearly 500-600 kms.. & the engine used to heat up a lot..
            Is this thing harmful for the bike because after removing the tools stuck near air filter, i have driven almost 400 kms & the engine seems fine and also doesn't heat up as it used to.

            Thanks all again for your help..
            Please help me with the battery problem, as i dont have a battery in my bike currently & have to kick start it.. it is lot cumbersome,,
            Should i ask for a spare battery till the time i get the replacement from the dealer?
