  • Pulsar 150 DTSi Exhaust

    Hello fellow xBHPians,

Its been really longtime since I visit our beloved forum. As usual, I m here cause something caught my attention today.

In Hyderabad, pollution check for vehicles are easy, cheap, and mandatory . I recently did that and found that bikes exhaust gas ppm has increased by considerable amount. It was 1.02 about 6 months ago and now its 1.8 . I was wondering if Bajaj 150 DTSi 2009 model

    1. carries catalytic converter in it ?
    2. if no, is there a way to fix it ?
    3. if yes, is there a way to clean it ?
    4. Else, what is the most efficient way to bring down the emission level ?

I always fill Super unleaded in Shell and run on Fully synthetic engine oil. And use my bike with care for commuting to office. Carb and Full Fuel system cleaner every two months once. No mods what so ever and service record is impecable than my school report card .

Just wondering if this is something to worry about (as I'm doing now) cause we xbhp bikers always take responsibility very seriously and our commitment to environment is ever lasting.

Just wanted to know your fair thoughts on this.

it has cat-con,cat con going kaput is very unlikely.
      check the carb tuning.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

The same thing happened on my bike.I have a 2010 apache rtr180 The PUC reading showed 0.210ppm last year(Am not sure how the value showed so low) and it showed .228 ppm this year(Same PUC guy) so IMHO the Catcon loses its effectiveness gradually over the years as carbon deposits begin forming on its pores reducing its effective surface area hence reducing the amount of pollutants converted(by means of its catalytic action). As long as the levels are within the government prescribed limits do not worry.(Also I dont understand the concept of checking emissions when the engine is idling. Most pollutants are released when accelerating or at high revs {in carburetted bikes} so the PUC checks will only be really useful when the level of emission at all rpm's are monitored.)

but puc guy here always asks me to give some throttle.

              thanks sayank10/Vignesh vnktrmn/shoeb2015.

Now if we have to go for Cat con cleaning, whats the process ? Do we have any over the counter solutions for this ? Though cleaning air filter (as mentioned by Shoeb2015) is something that I make sure to do every 3 months once, the sudden rise is worrying.

One more doubt that I have is, do 2009 Pulsar's have Cat con in them ? All 220's carry them, but havent got any documents to support their existence in 150's.

cat-con cleaning ??well i am not sure about that.
all carb bikes have cat-con s.

This is turning to be a tricky situation Sayank. Cause, issue seems to lie with the Carb and I m supposing that my cylinder compression rate too would have changed significantly recently causing less burn. I m planning to take my bike to a service station and get a thorough check to stop this menace. will update you soon on this.

although the problem doesn't seem like too big but that is a sensible deed on your part.

                      reviving this topic..

Checked my exhaust today and found crumbs of black soot at about an inch from the exhaust exit. Poked my finger inside and found good amount of soot, and the drain hole of exhaust is actually showing signs of oil leak...

very bothering to me...just wanted to know if someone has ever tried cleaning the insides of the exhaust with motor spirits (petrol/diesel/kero) anytime earlier...or is there any other way ?

I'm crazy enough to think of pouring a half litre of petrol in it and shaking it vigorously to dislodge the soot...really worried
