  • Help needed: Buying a used FZ-S

    Hello,

A friend of mine is planning to buy a used FZ-S which is almost a year and half old. Its showing 8500+ on odo, and the engine performance seems to be fine too. I took a test ride and there we no vibrations whatsoever, had a good pick up and reached 80+ in a span of 10-12 seconds.

The external condition of the bike isnt too good, has rust marks on the foot-pegs, and the shield, a few scratches here and there, and the chain was rusting too. Overall, I can say the owner didnt invest much in the external care of the bike. The owner however says that he has been almost regular with the services, no parts have been changed so far. The tyres look fine too.

The person is asking ~50K for it, however, I feel that its a little too much for the condition the bike is in.

Can you please help us with this purchase on the following points:
    1. What other stuff should I check to ensure that the bike is in a good condition?
    2. What are the legal formalities to get it transferred? ( it would be same state same RTO transfer, only the owner would change, no location changes)
    3. What would be a good price for this one?
    4. Any other tips/suggestions.

    Thanks.

i don't know about other answers but i know what will be the good price + how to register your name on rc or on other pages of bikes

Ans3: as you are saying bike have some scratches + rust also then u need to buy it at 38k or last price 44k only. coz the bike look too old if it have a bit scratches also.

how to register it at your name ?
ans: there are authorities,u need to go there and some paper works :P. other guys will reply on this. ( don't have much experience in this :P)

take a reliable known mechanic with you ,he will check the bike in and out.
legal formalities like you have to sign form no 23 or 29 i don't remember, why not contact your neaby motor training centre.
fz has a bad resale value here in kolkata, most of the fz s are sold in 36k-40 k range.
have you found any sign of abuse?then rather stay away.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Its not easy to ascertain whether the bike is in good condition and that is a risk which 2nd hand buyers take. If you have some dependable mechanic you can take him with you. Check that not much visible smoke appears from the silencer.

AFAIK, you need to buy a bike selling book which consists of 7-8 pages. The seller would be transferor and the buyer would be transferee. There are some pages which the transferor will keep with transferre signature in case of any discrepancy and vice versa. You will need to go to the RTO and get signed at the appropriate places and pay some transfer charge.

You may also check the insurance, pollution certificate, all bike papers.
40K would be appropriate amount for the bike I suppose considering your statements.
          Whats there in a signature?
