  • Need help with my HH CBZ*

    Hi,
I own a 2004 CBZ*. For quite some time now (around 1 yr) I am facing some problems with my bike.
    a. b. The engine has missing sound do not what it is called. Misfires?
    c. For the first 3 kms (approx.) sometimes when the clutch or I stop at a red light or traffic the engine stalls.
    d. The tachometer of the bike does not work for the past couple of years the mechanic says I have to get a new set.
    e. f. I use my bike mainly for commuting to office which is only 6 kms away. Hence every day I drive max 13 kms only with rarely around 50 km on Sundays
    g. I do not speed too often and never go beyond 50 or 60 kmph
    h.

Get the carburettor cleaned and the AFR tuned correctly. Check and clean/replace the spark plug.

Thank you guru DTSi. I will get the carb cleaned. what is AFR? i am new to the terms used on this forum so do not know.

What is re-jetting? has it got something to do with the carb?

My horn is also giving a feeble sound so i installed a second horn along with it. The new horn works perfectly fine but the second one is still the same. So my doubts:

        a. is the old horn faulty? Since the new one is perfectly fine.
        b. the battery is new though i need to check the electrolyte level which has been pending for quite some time.
        c. i also read some where in the internet that a bad fuse could also be a problem to the feeble sound.

Slow running set to too low???
Does the missing sound occurs when driving at a steady low speed?

It does sometimes. but it is more frequent at the time of starting the bike and when i accelerate and then return the throttle it gives multiple missing sounds

also when i accelerate there is an odd sound dont know how to explain but it seems that the engine is trying very hard to accelerate.

The bike has run 48500 km so far. I do not ride much except for commuting between home and office which are 13 km apart. its a 2004 model.

ok i think i found the cause of the problem. was just inspecting the carb section this morning and found out that the airfilter hose that connects the carb was not connected properly which means everything dust, etc is going into the carb freely. Now i do not know for how long this has been like this. but ideally what should i be doing now, apart from cleaning the carb. Is there any problem to the engine / piston or any other component?

Needs carb tuning,Get the carburetor cleaned and tuned properly from Authorized Service Center or a good Local Mechanic.

                  c. For the first 3 kms (approx.) sometimes when the clutch or I stop at a red light or traffic the engine stalls.
Whats the current idle rpm of the bike?

                  d. The tachometer of the bike does not work for the past couple of years the mechanic says I have to get a new set.
Try changing the Speedo Cable and see whether it works or not.

                  e. An year back I had got the engine work done – new piston, clutch plates, spark plug etc.
How many KMS ran after the work?

                  h. During services I use Castrol active 4T
How many KMS after oil change? How often you change oil?

                  +1^^

Check and clean/replace the spark plug.
Replace Sparkplug and AirFilter element,A Clogged airfilter can cause choking.

Its the Air Fuel Ratio,The amount of Fuel and Air feed on to the engine.

What is re-jetting? has it got something to do with the carb?
You dont have to rejet until you installed an aftermarket free flow filters like K&N,Green,Pipercross etc.

                  a. is the old horn faulty? Since the new one is perfectly fine.
Might be,Check whether the horn is loose,I mean the joint where it is bolted on,loose contacts can cause this issue.

                  b. the battery is new though i need to check the electrolyte level which has been pending for quite some time.
                  Check and fill if necessary.

                  c. i also read some where in the internet that a bad fuse could also be a problem to the feeble sound.
AFAIK there is no such a bad fuse, either it works fine or will get blown.

Leak in that pipe can cause loss in performance, choking etc.

                        Sunilyo -

It seems your carburetor needs re-tuning as suggested by other members.
You can get this done at an auth. service centre or an experienced mechanic.

Also, ask them to set the idle rpm(setting on carburetor) properly so that the engine doesn't stall.

hi guys i took it an authorized HH service station and got it checked. The senior mechanic over their before i could say anything himself told that the engine itself has got major problems. Upon inspection found out that the crankshaft had gone bad. Upon close inspection even the camshaft, piston and cylinder head had also gone bad.

Hence just had to get them replaced.

Now the ride is a smooth as the first time i rode it. no vibrations, no missing, no nothing.

carburetor also cleaned and tuned now i am enjoying my ride.

Thank you guys for all your help.

Will come back to this forum shortly but this time it will be for the head lighting options.
