  • Tyre problem in UNICORN

    Hi all,

I am new to XBHP and this is my first post.I have 2008 Honda Unicorn with 50K Kms done and in mint condition.Recently I changed both tyres, rear with Michelin Sirac Street 100/90x18 and front with same new MRF Zapper FS 2.75x18 with both new tubes.Since tyre changed,I am feeling handle wobbling and vibrations in handle and footrest at slow speeds below 40 km/hr,not at high speed but wobbling is at high speed. As adviced,I got tyre checked from dealer and found OK then i got front fork, steering bearing check and found OK.

Pl suggest me what is the cause of vibrations and wobbling after tyre change? Is it due to different tread pattern in front and rear?I am going to 20 days ride in Uttarakhand next month.

Where does it vibrate and wobble front or rear?

      Park bike in center stand,

      If in Front,

      >Check handle bar movement from center to left and right, check free and right wheel movement, check your shocks.

      If in Rear,

      > Check free wheel movement, check whether the long bolt that is inserted from left to right is correctly fastned, hold the rearset (place where foot rests are assembled) with one hand and check if there is any left to right movement of your tyre, check whether your sprockets are assembled correctly.
Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.
If you lack these two then DONT

go to a good tyre shop or and experienced punture waala... tell him deflate completely and re-inflate and tell him to check if both the tres are seated properly. sometimes if tyres are not seates in rims evenly, it can cause wobbling.

even i am facing exactly same problem after installing michelin sirac at the rear. i too have unicorn bought in jan 2008, done 55k kms. after changing tyre at rear with sirac, i started getting vibes just after changing tyres on the way to my home. i thought it might be a minor misallignment problem. showed it to my mechanic, he inspectred and said tyre was fitted properly. vibes got worse after few days, mech told me to change chain and sprocket set. stilll the problem didnt go. i changed both bearings at rear wheel, still problem was there. finally after 6 months, i replaced my tyre to stock - wear out MRF tyre and problem was gone. it is said by many people that sirac treat pattern gives vibrations at different speeds like 40,60.. its very unusual that i found this problem only in my case, and same tyre on pulsar performs well. even i am trying to find out if its the tread pattern or any defect in the tyre itself. if you have any conclusion on this, please share it with me too ...my id :- [email protected]

            Hi,

I am also facing similar problem but at 22kmph. However after cleaning the chain and damper set vibes have reduced.

I was contemplating to change the Wheel bearing, Wheel damper set, Sprocket set with chain. Seeing this thread I wont change any of the above mentioned parts and press for a warranty claim from Michelin.

            Cheers,
            Darshan
