  • New Pulsar 150 UG4.5 Engine Overheating!!

    Hi All,

This is my first post in XBhp.

I bought a Pulsar 150 UG4.5 last Wednesday(11/4/12) from authorized Bajaj Dealer. And the bike has run only 104 KM till now.

Yesterday when I rode the bike for 5 km I started feeling heat at my feet and after another 5 km I felt heat till the seats. I had to ride back the 10 km and the heat was unbearable

Please tell me what might be the issue as its a very new bike!!

I am following the Run in rules and not crossing 50KMPH..

I dont know about which engine oil is put in the new bike.

Please help me overcome this overheating issue..

Dont get panicked, engine heating is quite normal in first few 100's km. but it shouldn't reach ur sear i guess. or u r being overcautious. it must be smelling bad right ? its normal in frst starting kms.ride it slowly (20-40) and do an oil change before 250-300 Kms.

      Safe riding !!Happy riding,

        Thanks a lot itssaurabh.negi

It does smell when I lean over to look at the engine when its hot. But I don't get the smell when I am sitting straight and riding.

I hear a faint tick-tick sound when I accelerate above 30 and its frequency reduces when I reduce my speed.

I have put an engine guard( to prevent dust and mud reaching the engine). Do i need to remove it as it may be blocking the air flow ?

The seat is not getting hot but I am able to feel heat till my thighs.

+1, no need to panic. heating happens initially when the bike is run in. thats the reason why manufacturers recomend slow running so that if there s any defect, it can be rectified in time...

frankly speaking, people often mistake a normal engine for a over heated one when it is running in hot weather. the engine temperatures often exceed the boiling point of water and we humans feel even 75 degree as un bearable.

you can compare with any other pulser.. if you stil feel tha the engine is hot, head to the showroon else ALL IS WELL

the tick tick sound if of the tappets.. get them set after the second service (yes, let it remain as it is after the first service)

please remove all engine guards unless what you are using are high quality ones designed to assist in engine cooling

Thanks for reducing my tension ROCKRZ

I think I will remove the engine guard as I don't think it is assisting engine cooling in anyway. Its just a plain sheet of metal in front of engine.

I will ride my bike after removing the engine guard and report my observations. I will also ride another Pulsar 150 and check if mine is not alarmingly hot.

Sorry I am a complete novice to bikes and engines.
Please tell me what are these 'Tappets' how to set them? Can I set them myself or do I need to ask Bajaj Service ppl to set it.

No,you can not set them yourself if you are novice(according to you).loose tappets do not cause any harm except making sound until they are very-very loose, but over-tight tappets can cause problem. So let them as they are until the second service.

Please don't try to set the Tapid's yourself, because in 4 stroke engines the tapids play an very important role in INTAKE & EXHAUST, So any wrong thing can result less power, economy & Smooth Running condition. Both the Intake & Exhaust tapids has default clearance of around 0.6 / 0.8 mm(May not be correct for Pulsar, As this is model specific), which can not be set without proper tools, which are available to Trained mechanic only.

Don't Panic, just report the problems to your Bajaj Dealer in 1st Servicing. But I Should Suggest you to Check the Engine Oil level is correct or not in your bike, you can take help from anyone who knows something about bike or riding bike since a couple of year.. More or less the indication is available in the Oil Chamber as wee, please refer to the Owner's manual you received from Bajaj at the time of Purchasing the bike..

Thanks and please let me know in case still need some more info.. My email ID is [email protected]

Remove the engine guard, it is the cause of engine overheating...as it is blocking the air and air is not able to reach engine. This is an air cooled engine. Also if possible plz post a pic of ur bike with engine guard

Shouldn't the engine fins be assisting in the cooling of the engine, when it comes to air cooled engines, and ASAIR i don't think the engine guard rises that much to block the air going to the part. Just suggesting a view here. Until a pic is put up we cannot be sure.

                    Cheers
