  • Karizma R problems

    Dear All,

I would like to get your expert advise with regards to the problems i am observing rather facing with my Karizma R. Below are the problems:

    1. I am facing the typical air block problem i.e. i am unable to start the bike if it is left un used for a day. It does start but immediately the engine stops. I have to open the petrol lid and then close it again for the bike to start properly.

    2. Ones i give acceleration and then immediately release the accelerator the acceleration is not reducing immediately and is slowly reducing as if the accelerator wire is stuck.

    3. When i get to a speed crossing 80 kmph, the engine is vibrating and as well a lot of heat is emanating from the engine. I didnt feel the same when i went at 100kmph on my old Unicorn. And this being a 225cc bike i never expected the vibration nor the heat. I can feel the heat of this 225cc engine on my legs.

    4. Finally; last but not the least, there is a lot of chain sound coming when i drive, as if it is rubbing against something, however when i got this checked with a HH service centre, he said that the chain and sprockets are fine and he is unable to identify the reason for the same.
And when i checked with another HH service centre, he was saying that a part in the engine needs to be changed. however, he was not sure of what he was saying.

I have absolutely no clue as to why i am facing these problems.
Kindly guide me with proper answers, so that i can ask the mechanic to specifically check the same. Pls help me with genuine answers.

Also any suggestions of any good bike mechanic or HH service centre in Bangalore.

    Thanks in Advance

Hi... I'm a newbie myself on this forum, but have quite some experience with some of the issues you have on my CBZ Xtreme. Check your carb tuning (AFR - air fuel ratio) and retune your bike. I think the air may be too rich in the mixture.

Regarding your chain, the sound is probably due to the chain dragging across the rear chassis; so basically, it's loose. This usually happends when there is a bend in the rear sprocket. Ask the HH service center guys to check the sprocket again. Otherwise, ask them to re-adjust the drive chain.

Do you turn the fuel cock/tap off when you park the bike after your ride for the day?
In that case, mostly you will have to use the choke for a proper start in the morning/or after a day.
If you are facing this problem even after using the choke(also you have mentioned about acceleration/deceleration problem) then, there could be a problem in the carb tuning. Also check if air filter is clogged?

Regarding chain noise, it could be because,
        - chain too loose and hence hitting the swingarm/chain cover
        - chain/sprocket worn out (between how many kms you've completed on Karizma?)
        - the chain/swing arm protection pad(don't know the exact name for that) on the swingarm is worn out/faulty

          Thank u Satson and n0xious.

well noted your point regarding the carb tuning.

However, regarding the chain and sprocket, i had already checked it with a HH servicing centre and he was saying that it is absolutely fine.
However, the sound may be on account of some part which i worn out near the gear box. i dont remember the name of the part but he was saying so.

Also any suggestion sof any good mechanics or service centres in Bangalore.
Howz Castrol Bike zone by the way.

          Thanks in advance.

Bike Zone is good, atleast here in Coimbatore. But, it all comes down to the mechanic taking care of your bike. Give it to an outside garage with great caution.

So, yeah all in all, they're good. Just check up with the prices online : Castrol Bike Zone

He might have been referring to the pad/cover over the swing arm(near to gear box) as I pointed out before, but not sure. This protects the chain/swingarm from direct hits. If this is bad/gone, and your chain is bit loose, the chain would hit the swing arm making noise.(especially when you are running on high gears in low rpm)

I'd given my bike(Hunk) for Gold service @ Castrol bike zone in Chennai once.
For the amount(around Rs. 350) it was worth a service. But the mechanic there was not that competent for inspecting more technical faults, i would say.

But I've read about good service @ some CBZ's, you can search in our forum itself.

All fours issues which you've mentioned are thankfully relatively minor, also have been discussed to a great extent and resolved as well.

                    Have a look HERE.

Either the AFR is very rich,Need more info,How old is your bike? How much kms ran?or stuck Choke cable can cause this problem.Check choke cable, idle rpm, idle rpm should be 1500rs when hot.

                    3. When i get to a speed crossing 80 kmph, the engine is vibrating and as well a lot of heat is emanating from the engine. When did you changed the engine oil last time? How old is your bike?

                    4. there is a lot of chain sound coming when i drive
                    Its karizma's signature.

                    ,
as if it is rubbing against something, however when i got this checked with a HH service centre, he said that the chain and sprockets are fine and he is unable to identify the reason for the same.
If the chain is rubbing then its the chain rubbing the chain case,Improper fitting of chain case will hit the chain, the chain guard has to fixed in correct slots provided in the swingarms.

And when i checked with another HH service centre, he was saying that a part in the engine needs to be changed. however, he was not sure of what he was saying.
                    Time to change Service center.

                          About the chain noise:
if it from the rollers (like sirrrrr..sirrr kinda noise) then only remedy is using thicker 140 grade oil (personally tested), though good chain spray will do too but the silent effect doesn't last like 140 grade oil.
But Down side of using thicker oil is dirty chain by the way.
