What type of bike you are looking for?

2 stroke like yamaha RX100/135 etc?

4 stroke like Splendor, Discover, Pulsar etc?

        The scenario here is
        1. You want to learn.
        2. Will keep bike for 1 year.

        My advise
        a) Don't bother modifying a bike you will keep for only one year.
        b) Buy a bike in decent condition or within your budget, that has no modification done. This will fetch better resale value. Hence advising you not to do modification yourself. HH (now HMC) may be a good option as the are reputed to have good resale value. In short, target a bike you can sell of for a decent price after one year.
        c) Forget about modifying/styling/tuning etc. Save the money for a proper helmet and learn to ride proper first, and, then go for the bike of your dreams later, and do whatever turns you on.

why second hand bike?(would you like to have second-hand wife before getting married)
Second hand bike will be full of problem, just buy new bike and you will have enough time to learn riding before warranty expires

Mee to planned for a second hand when i decided to have a byke but for 2 reasons my parents are against 2wheelers so i have money shortage also I just know how to drive(not ride) a byke.
So my point is go for a second hand Only
if u r in short of budget.

            else go a fresh one

u can learn riding and get it in your control in just a few days. avoid showoff and heavy traffic roads during the learning period

you can consider 2nd hand if u r interested in rx 100 like 2stroke

only way to ensure u got a good ride when u buy a second hand one is to buy a ride u know from the date of its first purchase and the owner of it.

if you have the budget go for a new bike.. You will learn it fast.. I was riding scooter and my first self ride on a bike was on a new splendor which continued to serve me for 1 lakh kms.
If you have a budget constraint go for a four stroke HH bike like splendor or passion etc which has done 20-30 k kms max.. Try to spend more on bike evaluation by a good mechanic before making the purchase.. A good 100cc will do the job for you..

Splendor / Passion would be the best bet in the OP's budget, but do get the bike checked by a mechanic as muztariq pointed out.
Also if you want to sell it after 1 or 2 years, HH bikes' after sale value will be an added advantage. And these are cool bikes to learn riding, with soft clutch, smooth gear shifts, all up gear shift pattern etc.

                @Mustariq
The rides which we own/owned have few similarities!
Me too had some good time with Vespa before shifting to Splendor which has clocked 1 lakh plus and still counting.
Now owning a Hunk too apart from Splendor.

since you are new to bikes, it will be tough for you to judge the bike.
even though, you can see some basic things before purcahsing.

                  1. owner (if he is rash driver, stay away coz rash riding harms everything in engine, specially clutch bell and bore).
                  2. kms (lessre kms, better bike)
                  3. check if any coloured smoke is coming out of silencer. if its two stroke, it should be bluish white( same as that of Gold Flake Lights ). and if its four stroke, it should be colour less.
                  4. check for cosmetics too. i would suggest not to invest in this bike too much as you are learner and wont keep this bike much with you.
                  5. last but not the least, don't forget to test ride by the Experienced mechanic, as suggested by Muztariq. but keep in mind, that mechanic is trustworthy. coz he may suggest you a bike which will require more visits to his garage resulting in Money Transfer from your pocket to his.

I believe, by colorless you meant "no smoke", as four strokes in good condition will not emit any smoke.

Please let me know what the colorless emission from exhaust pipe of four strokes is called?
