Help using Tachometer

Hi friends,

I am new bike rider (Yamaha SS125), riding for one week now. I can ride my bike now, but still not 100% comfortable.

One problem I still have is to read the tachometer and use it to ride bike. I know it gives the reading of number of engine revolutions per minute and it is used in shifting gear.. But, how?

Could you please help describing?

It would be better if you tell all the problems with the bike, rather than one at a time.

As for the tachometer, it is the speed of the crankshaft's rotation that's displayed. And crankshaft comes before the gearbox, so tachometer's not a speedometer.

In other words, rpm shows engine speed only. Even if the bike is at stand at 0 kmph. Among other benefits, it helps you find the ideal gear-shifting spot for power, mileage, etc. Like if you up shift at 3500 rpm, it should give good mileage. And upshifting at 8000 rpm or so, will give maximum power and drive! And so on...

You can ignore the tachometer now, if you're getting confused.
