    hello guys this is my first post here.......went through almost everything before posting this issue. Couldn't pinpoint what exactly the problem is.....and its further complicated by various mechanics suggesting different solution.anyway here it is........


    I have 2007 model karizma. got it from a distant cousin in January 2012. the bike emits black smoke at Max rpm and there is a loss of power(feels sluggish/ non linear acceleration ie-Does not accelerate the way it should. decreases then shoots) at 3000-4000rpm. no knocking issues.
    what could be the problem here?

    condition of the bike
    1. ran around 1000 kms without an air filter(practically)
    I got the bike as it is. the mechs I showed the bike to never bothered with a OPEN hanging air filter pipe but recently I rectified it and installed k&n r1100 direct to Carb.

    2. no upjetting as of now. tuned Afr according to details provided here.

    3.Fe is 30-32. 42k on odo.

    4. oil drains/ blackens at alarming 500-700kms. got white smoke when castrol oil was used at Max rpm for a couple of Kms. now only black smoke at Max rpm with shell oil.

    5. considering bigbore kit and ffe...should I get the engine checked before going for big bore.

    While I can't pinpoint the problem exactly, I suggest you remove the K&N filter, or make an airbox to protect it better. With K&N fitted without an airbox, your bike won't last 1-1.5 years before requiring overhaul (piston change).

    If you have to use K&N, use it with the original airbox with no modifications.

      This is happening due to no jetting. The carb is getting excess amount of air but not the proportional amount of fuel. For optimum use of a free flow filter the carb needs to be re-jetted so that you have the right amount of fuel and air.

      Thats about right fuel economy for a 07 ZMA.

      Happens, not an issue. Make sure the oil levels don't drop significantly.

      My answers in blue.Suggest you open the engine and examine the valves and piston rings for any wear and tear.
