  • Digital Console - Speedometer Errors on Pulsar 180 UGIV

I'm the owner of a 2011 Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTS-i. After a few months of the bike's purchase i got many speedometer problems. The RPM needle moves directly to 12000RPM on 4TH gear when the needle approaches 8000RPM mark and the gear shifter blinker blinks like hell. The same thing happens on the 5TH gear. Suddenly one day i got the speedometer showing 0/kmph. Soon i changed the speedometer cable. The same cable stopped working after three months. Now i am really worried as every time changing the speedometer cable would cost me more than my pocket. I had also contacted the Bajaj Service Center but they didn't managed to fix it. They told me to change the speedometer cable as i said the speedometer reading is not working. They didn't even bothered to look before saying to replace the cable. Bajaj After Sales Servicing is very poor , that's what i have to say.

    Please help me guys..thanks

Its a fact that digital speedometers of Pulsars are the most strangely behaved in the industry, but your problems seem more genuine. Answer the following questions:

    1. Are you sure you have ridden it slow for the first 2000 kms? Have you run in it properly?

    2. Did you leave the bike idle for sometime? Because if insects chew it wiring (it happened to my bike too) then it starts behaving strangely, or some lights don't work anymore.

You'll have to pursue them seriously if you want any benefit from the warranty. I think speedo-cable shouldn't be damaged physically for you to claim it from warranty. Can't be sure though.

Allow me to add a 3rd question.

      3. Did you try calling BAL Customer Care Toll Free on 1800 233 2543 and lodge a complaint regarding your problem?

If not, please do and watch the service center experience transform .

I too own a 09 180 UG4 and facing a similar issue the RPM needle dances upto 12K. Even when riding constantly on 2K rpm the needle fluctuates (without any actual change in rpm of engine). I think it is a problem related to battery as my battery indicator fluctuates at night when I use Lights + Horn even for a small duration. And this started happening after I changed the battery.

this issue is related to the battery. please get the electricals and battery checked. faced similar issue in the past where the rpm needle used to show erratic movements. though it was not on a pulsar but getting it checked wudn't do harm
