  • Problem with CAT!

Yes, you heard it right. I got problem with cats at my home. Frequently at night, cats come and sit on the seat of my bike, destroying it with their claws. I spent 600 rupees for a good seat and it is destroyed. Using a bike cover is a solution, but its not very much practical to me and I don't like everyday putting it and removing it again in the morning.

I would like to know if anybody has any intuitive ideas other than using a bike cover.

Topic Approved, although this discussion might go more imaginative than technical.

Instead of a full on bike cover, you can use a small towel, cloth piece, etc, keep it at your parking spot and just cover the bike's seat with it before you sleep.

Or try parking the bike in a closed area.

Or try bribing her, with some milk at another location, far away from the bike. But that will give no guarantee anyways.

Moderator NOTE: Guys, Kindly give useful suggestions and avoid having fun or going on OT spree's. Thanks.

Thanks for approving Samarth. And, a little fun is always healthy and interesting.

Keeping a towel or piece of cloth I tried but the cats are pulling it, may be when they are fighting. And keeping the bike in an enclosed area is not possible for me. And as for bribing with milk, no guarantee.

Cats like to sit and rest on even surface...so park your bike on side stand..if bike is still not much inclined, try placing the side stand toe into a lower than tire level which will give more inclination....

Very good suggestion sir, but I have to park my bike in a small lane where I can't park it with side stand. If I park it on side stand, it blocks the way.

Get a dog! seriously that's your best bet with cats. Another way is to sweat it out for couple of days, be there and scare them away for 2 to 3 days, then they will quit coming to your place.

Buy the Egg carrying plastic TRAY and strap it with plastic thread or bungee cords to the seat.

Its not possible for me to raise a pet dog.

vrugonnab, they are coming at night. In that case, I have to play watchman role for 2-3 days.

Instead of those egg crates, may be I will buy a large bungee net and tie a makeshift seat. I have to source a large bungee net somewhere. I got some but they are very small.

Apply strong smelling stuff like tiger balm on the seat.My pet cat too had the habit of clawing my bike seat but he seems to hate the smell of tiger balm.It worked for me,do try it or some other strong smelling stuff like chilli powder sprinkled on the seat. That will keep the felines away.

You seriously want me to apply chilly powder to my seat? If I don't clean it well, you know what happens.

Instead of applying to seat, is there any item that I can keep near the seat, the smell of which keeps away the cats?

                        1. Get a cardboard box. Cut it into a shape that will fit the seat snugly.
                        2. Cover the seat with a wet towel.

Point 2 seems to be a cool idea. Will try today.

you could try pasting a life sized picture of a ferocious dog on a cardboad, and place it near your bike. if the cat gets fooled, it will actually be fun watching it get scared and not come near your bike.

dont put a dog soft toy. if the cat musters up some courage and finds out the fluffyness of the dog, it will rid its fear of dogs for good..

Ur problem is nothing to worry. Seems like the cat got a likening to take nap on your seat, they sharpen the claws on what they find once they get up. So Just get a large thick gunny bag, like the 100kg sugar bags or any other gunny bag with thick layer, and use it to cover the seat on top in such a way that cat can't drop it while getting onto the bike, you can even tie it down, and remove the gunny bag in morning, that's all.
