Annoying rattling sound from exhaust Pulsar 180 UG2
Its been a while since this annoying noise started coming from the exhaust of my pulsar 180 UG 2. I showed it to many mechanics.. they were not able to figure out the source of this sound. Its like rattling noise from inside the exhaust which tops when I am in running in short gears doing 30-40km speed. Is there a way it can be fixed or do I need to replace the exhaust itself ? Any known places where I can exchange this exhaust or buy a used good condition exhaust in Delhi.
Any help will be appreciated .. Thanks in Advance !Tags: None

Try the Silencer heat guard plates. Sometimes these become loose and start rattling.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It disappears at higher revs and higher speeds, yet comes up when the bike goes overa speed breaker, something like kadkadkadkad and vibration with it right? Then this is the issue:Originally posted by cschoudhary View PostIts been a while since this annoying noise started coming from the exhaust of my pulsar 180 UG 2. I had the same issue on my P150 Classic. Apparently, the cat convertor precious metal plate broke into small bits and was rattling inside the muffler. I still get the sound as I have not changed the muffler.

4 stroke silencers tend to rust with a period of time and pulsar's are pretty quick with that. it aint the silencer guard. its probably a rusted baffle inside.
unmount the silencer from the bike when its cool and take it to a gas welding shop. he will be able to figure out and cut the portion from where sound is coming. re-weld the baffle inside and again attach the top part.
get a 10ml box of silver paint and repaint the welded area.
DIY : once this is done. fill around 100 ml of used engine oil in the silencer and fix it to the bike. once you run the bike it will burn of all the oil and carbon coat the silencer from inside. and rust be will history.
warning : you will find a lot of white smoke coming out and it might annoy people so keep a check on it, do it over the highway if possible."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

I thought so initially but when I took a test ride after removing the plates the noise didn't vanishOriginally posted by antz.bin View PostQuery Approved

its more like a ringing bell or older times alarm bell sound ! no way to know this without cutting open the exhaust !!Originally posted by icemang View PostIt disappears at higher revs and higher speeds, yet comes up when the bike goes overa speed breaker, something like kadkadkadkad and vibration with it right? I gave this a thought but the point on which I was hesitating is if the re-welding is not done properly then it may look ugly that is why I was looking if I can just swap it somewhere with a used exhaust and get rid of this irritating sound forever..Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Post4 stroke silencers tend to rust with a period of time and pulsar's are pretty quick with that. it aint the silencer guard. its probably a rusted baffle inside.

i understand it might look ugly but generally the silencer repair guys cut it from the bottom seal that is unvisible unless you inspect the vehicle closely. also i suggested you can paint the welded portion again with silver paint.
all this work might cost you around 400 bucks which should be a lot cheaper than the next exhaust.
as you stated you can also try a used exhaust. i would not be able to suggest about the pricing for the same.
even if you get a new/used exhaust. please use the oil method i said in the end tail of the exhaust and it will keep it rust proof life long."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

that is ruled out because the noise it makes can only be generated by two metal bodies.Originally posted by Cyrus_the_virus View PostHave you ever considered the possiblity of a foreign object like a stone inside the silencer?
