Front Forks issue. R15v2.0

    Front Forks issue. R15v2.0

    About 45 days ago I had met with an accident.
    The front cowl
    The right side cowl
    The right side fairing
    The right side handlebar
    The right side indicator
    The muffler guard
    The muffler logo

    were all replaced. A total of oddly Rs7,800/- of insurance company's expenditure.

    In the accident the front forks had also bent. They were corrected by the SVC for an additional charge of Rs750/- (again, all under insurance).

    The problem I'm facing is with the precision with which the forks were corrected.

    *The left handlebar is half a cm closer to the tank than the right one (the bike had fallen on the right, skid for about 5 mts and also had the RIGHT HANDLEBAR replaced).


    *Also there is a 'rusted see-saw' sort of a noise while going over humps & potholes. The noise is more like an old, very old, bed with two people making love on it (now you get the idea).


    Kindly help with what is to be done. The SVC guys are of not much help.

      That see saw noise is there in my bike too, i think the forks are new thats why they are getting adjusted. If problem persists go to the SVC and check the forks. If they have scratch marks then its better to replace them in warranty.

      I think you should have got your fork replaced in the accident.

        ^^^ you say they were 'corrected'. By which you meant the inner tubes were straighten out (I am assuming). If yes, then was it done on a jig and hydraulic press or was it done with approximating and by hand?

        If it was done by hand with no jig and visual approximation, then the inner tubes are not true. From your description it seems you have fork stiction problems due to this inaccuracy.

        Do the forks have excessive static sag? Is the handling and balance of the bike affected? If the answer to these is yes, then your best option is to replace the inner tubes with new ones.

          I dont think a jig was used.

          Specifying further: after the accident the tyre would be tilted towards the left if the handlebar was kept straight. I'm assuming the inner tubes also 'turned' away from the normal position.

          I dont think/i'm not sure if the forks bent/cracked/broke in the middle.

          What is a static sag?


          Its difficult to moves the handle right or left while static. Its normal while on the move.
          I havent crossed 50kmph. Out of fear,I confess. So i havent noticed any other changes in handling.

            In a normal bike inner tubes and the forks are perfectly straight. The angle of rake and trail for the forks is not created by the inner tubes/ forks. They are created by the angle of the steering head. Therefore, the inner tubes cannot just turn away from 'normal' angle.

            Either there was damage to your inner tubes or there was damage to the upper or lower triple clamps.

            Static sag is the distance your forks compress when you sit on the bike and its stationary.

              Abhimanyu, What you say here seems to be correct. The inner tubes are still not true and that See Saw sound you hear is also due to the same reason.

              I would suggest you narrate the story t your insurer and insist to them that the inner tubes be replaced.

                @abhimanyu31: Right,Sir.. The sag is much larger than what is was before the accident.. The clamps could also be dead.. Will post pictures asap.. The rake seems not okay cuz as i said i'm having difficulty steering when static..

                    Bah! Will check the T.

                    Tried the handsfree method to check the allignment. The bike at low speeds rolls sometimes towards the left,other times right..
                    Note: I could perform a 100percent stable handsfree at 11kmph but now i lost balance at 20kmph.

                      The steering bolt was tightend, which helped about 5 percent of the noise. I'm assuming its the coneset. Facing difficultly to steer the bike. Its hard. The handlebars misalignment was corrected. The wheel now seems 1percet mal-aligned towards the 'right' when the handlebars are straight.

                      Any easier method to check the coneset?
                      Is it covered under warranty?
                      Or insurance?

                      Edit: I'm facing suspension issue too. The bike doesnt eat potholes the way it used. Feel sad to hear that 'twichy' sound even on small 1 inch potholes and every gawd damn hump. Coneset again?

                        If I were you I would get the entire fork assembly replaced. The 'love-making' sound you describe sounds like the lower fork bushings & bent inner tubes. Since your bike is under warranty, insist on replacement.
