I think you are running lean on the AFR,ask the svc mechanics to tune the carb properly and it will be fine.

        @ thread starter,
what's your rpm in top gear while you are doing 85kmph?
And how's your bike's acceleration in low, mid and higher revs?
Its quite possible that its been running lean but it will never cause your top speed to be limited at (only) 85kmph.

what oil you are on? If any normal mineral/ss/fs oil for bikes then try this -
          1. Check carb settings/carb cleaning
          2. Air filter cleaning/changing
          3. Changing clutch plates

by the way what is decarbonising? Have heard it in cars.. But on bikes!?you mean you put something in the engine oil and start the engine and drain the oil and put in a new oil. Or is it you put a fuel additive and let the engine idle for sometime and engine is decarbonised..
In the first case.. It has harmed your clutch plates i think.. The second may have broken some seal and you may be consuming more engine oil.. But top speeds are unlikely to be harmed.

Thank you for your replies..@honda cbf 7k-8k rpm while getting 85kmph,low and mid range accelaration is good..can ride 6okmph at 4500k rpm range..i think this because clutch plates in good condition..right.? @muztariq-always on bajaj dtsi oil.. Airfilter changed in service..and decarbonising means cleaning the carbon deposits in the cylinder head..its a usual periodic service treatment of pulsar in every 15000km(pulsar service manual)When i try to increase idle rpm upto 4000 the rpm needle become constant..right mixture.?Sorry for bad english..

60kmph at 4500 rpm seems good. But 85kmph at 7-8k rpm is too much for P150. 85 kmph should come up at around 6-6.5k rpm. Seems like your clutch plates are slipping after 5-6k rpm and they are due for change.
I suggest you test ride any other P150 UG4.5 from showroom. There must be lack of acceleration if its a clutch problem.
Another query: is your bike able to redline in top gear? If not then at what rpm it gets stuck?
Low top speed can also be caused by improper (too tight) valve adjustment.
              Pulsar experts plz pitch in

Are you able to redline in lower gears? Is your max. RPM getting stuck at a particular point in the rev-range?
If yes then its related to the throttle slide.

check and replace- carb diaphram and carb slider piston and also reed switch.

if these two are not the problem than the problem is either too small like chain too tight low air pressure, brakes too tight etc or too big problem like clutch plates or engine problem.

@honda cbf-while iam riding same series pulsar 150 i didnt feel any lack..in my casei cant able to touch redline in topgear..and at 6-6.5k can ride 85kmph too..bt it stuck in same speed when iam trying to push 7-8k rpm range (thts maximum i can reach in topgear) @abhijeet-in the case of lowergears(1,2,3) i can shift to redline..bt there is a lag at 6-8 rev range and then it boost up to redline..i can feel that boosting and lacknes in some rev ranges..@prince-chain tension, air pressure, brake play this all in good level

So after 6K rpm engine speed(rpm) increases but no proportionate increment in the speed. This seems to be clutch problem. Get your clutch assembly checked. You may have to replace clutch plates.

First get your carb checked. As suggested by Prince. Those parts are cheap & less time consuming to check/replace.
Bad reed switch can also cause poor performance in higher rev range & lower top speed.
If everythings ok in carb then its most probably because of worn out clutch.

I dont have much idea of prices but should cost around 500 Rs. (only for clutch plates)
Excluding other spares, engine oil & labour.

                              once again-

if all smal things are correct- like-
                              • tyre air pressure.
                              • brake not too tight
                              • chain not too tight
                              • air/fuel mixture not incorrect.
                              • bearings like wheel bearings, chain sprocket bearings etc are ok
then check if your vehicle is able to achieve the required speed on a slope, or downhill, or for riding for a long time.

this particular problem has happend with me earlier several times, in my case my pulsar 150 used to run fine till 70kmph and from 70 to 80 kmph it used to take a very long time and if i have got enough empty road or slope and bike is able to catch speed till 80 kmph then it used to shoot ahead with good pick-up. this particular problem on sluggish response in pulsar only in a particular range is due to --
                              1. carb diaphram worn out (replace)
                              2. carb slider piston black color worn out (replace)
                              3. or reed switch faulty.
so, get these things checked and replaced.
