  • How to paint your bike yourself?

Recently one of my friends repainted his Honda Activa, with zebra stripes. It looked really cool and professional. He didn't have any previous experience in painting. He told me that job is simple but one needs to be patient. He used spray cans or something I guess.
    Recently I saw a thread,

I think this fz16 also was painted by its spray cans by its owner who is a member of xbhp.Forgot his name though.
So can some one provide info regarding painting bike by yourself, step by step?

    Thread Approved and moved
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Painting your bike using aerosol spray paint tins:
1.Purchase spray paint cans and polishing paper(Zero-grade sand-paper cloth).Bosny is a good brand Costs about 200 and is available in many colours.
2.Park vehicle in a closed /wind-free environment(To minimise dust contamination).
3.Clean area to be sprayed thoroughly with a suitable solvent(Petrol is best) and then gently rub the target area with wet sanding cloth. This makes surface slightly rough and allows paint to stick well.
4.If target area is to be painted with a colour different from surrounding areas then it is advisable to cover the edges of target area with adhesive paper-tape.
5.Shake tin and spray the area evenly with slow motion of hand while holding tin upright at about six inches away from surface.
6.Give about 20 minutes for paint to dry thoroughly then using a soft cloth wipe the painted surface and apply additional coat if felt necessary.
7.When painting adjacent areas with contrasting colours preferably paint the darker shade first.Finish the look with clear coat paint most air brush artists always use clear coat to give the paintjob a nice shiny finish.

It is not essential to remove existing paint to do the job(Except when surface is blistered).Just rub the surface with sandpaper to make it slightly rough(Be light handed while sanding).
