  • Royal Enfield Bullet, pushrod off the tappet

    Hi All,

Few days back, my bullet was making the usual tappet sound, so today i decided to check them and adjust accordingly. But this is very the story began

I adjusted both the pushrods and there was no up and down play nor they were to tight. I started the bike and bang..... the exhaust pushrod was off the tappet. and it was stuck somewhere at the top of exhaust tappet.

The situation is something similar to what "Jeepster" has posted in team-bhp. I am attaching a pic of the same.

I tried a lot, but was not able to connect it to the tappet. The pushrod is not coming down freely, i have to apply force to connect it to the tappet. Is this behaviour normal? How much damage i may have made?now i am cursing myself as to why i did not went to a mechanic.

Guys please let me know how to rectify this? Should i consult a mechanic or is this something which can be managed at home with the right technique?

Also, please let me know if there are any good mechanics in Faridabad (haryana).

    Please help.

    Thanks

I called a mechanic and he corrected it, but still there are few sounds present.

Please let me know some good mechanics in Faridabad.

      Thanks

Was the bike cold when you adjusted the pushrod? And what crank position did you adjust the pushrod in?

Yes the bike was cold, i ensured the valves are closed using the ammeter, although not sure about the crank position.

That should be alright then, just wanted to make sure you adjusted them at TDC. The only reasons for the push rod to hop off can either be a loose locknut or a bent rod, in your case since this happened immediately it is more likely a case of a bent push rod. Why not replace both the rods to be on the safe side and to prevent damaging something else at a later stage.

Yes, that was what the mechanic was also suggesting since the pushrod is slightly bent.
              Will replace them soon.
              Thanks for the info.

Re: Royal Enfield Bullet, pushrod off the tappet

Hi guys,This is Sandeep and presently owning a RE Electra UCE. well is it safe for a bullet to ride at 90=100 Kmph..??? It takes quite a effort for my bike to reach beyond 80 Kmph. Is that something to do with my tapper-rocker-pushrod adjustment... and how would it affect the mileage..????
