  • HID kit on Discover 100

Hi! I have installed a HID kit today in my discover. as far i searchered in the net there is a lot of recomendations like to increase the relay... , start up cable, converting AC to DC etc etc. but today the mechanic just plugged the kit in my bike headlamp space and no other mods done. as far the specs My battery is : 12V , 5 Ah DC. i just want to know is there anything else needed to run the HID kit ???

BTW it costed me Rs. 1300 ( including Fitting)

    35W , upto 8000K.

the low beam is yellowish but brighter.
The high beam is Neon White.

( P.S : There is no issues with the Low beam, but when changing to High beam sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds to spread the full light but once its fully light it stays bright , I had two horns installed and when on high beam when pressing horn the light dims a little and fluctuates , I have removed one horn )

    Please advise.

AFAIK, Discover 100 (your bike whose exact model you have not mentioned anywhere in your post) electricals are Full DC. So DC conversion is not required. As long as the HID wattage is just 35w, no more major mods should be required.

BUT, the major bits are that HIDs above 6000k are illegal in India. Also, using HIDs without Projectors is illegal because it blinds oncoming traffic. So in case you do not want to become a public hazard AND a cop magnet, I would suggest you to move the HID from high beam to low beam (for the time being). The current low beam is yellowish probably because you are still running a stock bulb for low beam.

For the rest, I would let the experts take over.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It seem your HID is Halogen+HID combo H4 type , that is why it has one beam yellow & other white . So whenever you switch to white beam ( which i think is HID ) it will draw around 5 amp current to start & then set on 3 amp , so every time you switch to it , it will draw around 5 amp initially , which results in load on battery . Better change it to the Bixenon H4 HID & battery to 7/9 amp .

Don't worry 5Amps battery will not be a problem under usual riding condition. However, prolonged night usage on hilly roads will drain the battery. Nevertheless, you will still have the Halogen bulb as backup.. so enjoy!

However, antz.bin mentioned, 8000K is not only too much glaring but also waste of your money as the luminosity will be less and will remain purely a "show-off" stuff.
