  • Suspension upgrade for Pulsar 150

    Hi guys,

I have a Pulsar 150 DTsi which has run about 65,000 kms. This bike holds some sentimental values to me, but I have'nt been taking care of her well. Its time to give her the attention that she deserves and I am planning to repaint, fix electrical issues and customize her headlamps. Its is also time to overhaul the suspension, so my question is, what are my options for a suspension upgrade. Should I go for stock suspension or do we have better options?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S:- I will travelling a lot on this bike in the coming days, so just want a more comfortable highway rides.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Your bikes model..??? (Year..??)

What type of Shockabsorbers do your bike have...??

If your bike has Nitrox suspensions then
change the oil in the suspensions, change the oil seals (If damaged),
ask the mechanic to check the tension in spring and ask him to make it better
get the gas (air) filled in them...!!!!

After completion, Ask the mechanic to adjust the range to Default setting (out of 5 settings)

All these repairs can be done in Shock absorbers specialist mechanics...!!!!

Gas/Air filling makes the absorbers Back to life..!!! refill it compulsorily..! If its not available at mechanic, go to Bajaj ASC and ask them to fill it...!!!
(Prefer ASC Only for the air job )

All these jobs will not exceed a max of 400 RS (May be even less)

Thanks Srinivas. Its a 2006 model, 150 DTsi (quite old huh? ). It now has the stock Endurance suspension. Do you know of any reliable 'Shock Absorbers specialist mechanics in/around TVM other than Bajaj A.S.S (I'm based at Kazhakkoottam and the Bajaj A.S.S here is always 'full') where I can this done? Or any normal workshop would do?

And what do you guys think of Discovers suspension?

            @Sree...

Im from Andhra and i dont know about your place..!!!

My bike is 2005 model in which for the first time Nitrox were added..!! They were still going fine...!!!

As i suggested, the same processes were carried to my suspensions..!! Now they are as good as new ones.... These things were carried out a year back to my bike..!!

I too use my bike heavily and there is absolutely no problem...!!!!

The suspension work will not be carried out in Bajaj's ASC..!! Even though they agree to do it, they simply carry them to local mechanics outside..!!

But the fact is if you take your bike to ASC, they simply say "Sir.. your suspensions got too old, and seals and tension in spring is almost gone. So you should change them immediately..!!!"

Its all bullshit...!!!! Until the middle rod in suspension is straight, nothing happens to suspensions..!! They will get bend only in heavy crashes..!!!

Please spend sometime in roaming around your place and find the "SHOCK ABSORBERS" specialized shops...!!!

I think those shops will be present every where from small towns to big cities...!!!

GRS, NITROX, all give the same feel of suspension...!!!

If you feel change is necessary and you have enough money, then go for P220 (ask for P220) suspension..!! (But all Pulsar suspensions are more or less same...!!! )
But it is not recommended..!! Invest the same money for good servicing of your bike...!!!

Don't go for repairing shock absorbers, its a waste of money IMO.
You can go for Nitrox shocks from Pulsar itself or GRS ones of Hunk, but Hunk's shocks will be costlier.

                Hello,

I have the same model bike as you do, 2006. I wanted to know what did you do about the suspension. Did you change it with the stock one or upgraded with anything else?

                Thanks

I know some 220 fitted with RTR rear suspension to improve handling.Could try the same for pulsar 150?

I have fitted Pulsar 220 shock abs in my pulsar 150. Handling has changed. but the problem is that I don't find any difference in my stock shock abs and newly fitted P220 shock abs in terms of visibility. but the performance has definitely changed. Mine is 2012 model.

P220 being heavier would be having more stiffer shocks than P150, though there won't be visual difference.

Re: Suspension upgrade for Pulsar 150

The new Pulsar 150 rear shock absorbers are one of the most comfortable suspension setup one can get. Pulsars are known for their back-pampering ride quality (Not the NS and the 135LS) sacrificing a little handling. Since you would be doing highway rides where flickability does not matter much, I suggest you stick to stock setup.
                        I am back!

Suspension refilling rarely works in case of motorcycle suspensions, the quality of work is not that great here in India so you would better replace the suspension if they are leaking. AFAIK P150 rear shocks are interchangeable with P135LS but it will change the height of the bike. You may try setting the suspension on the softest setting if you are just looking for a softer ride quality, doing this you will lose a bit of flickability though.
