  • Honda Unicorn spare parts cost ?

    Hi,
I own a 2009 December model Honda Unicorn. It has done 28k kms till now. There was a sound from the chain or chain case and slight wobbling in the front handle part.So I have given the bike for servicing.

Now the estimated work which they provided me is as follows.

    1. chain sprocket kit replacement
    2. Oil seal change for both the front shocks(there are no significant oil marks on the shock)
    3. Front fork bearing change

They are saying chain sprocket kit replacement costs almost 2000 rs including labour charge. I think this is over priced or double priced.

Any idea what is the original cost of this ?

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

May be he has quoted that price for all three above, and not the chain-sprocket kit alone. Chain-sprocket kit is not more than 1100 rupees. Fork bearing means the cone set and it is 500 rupees. At 28k, fork oil needs replacement. If the seals are good, no need to replace them. But, some suggest to change the seals too along with fork oil.

These three procedures including labor would be charged around 2000.

Thanks for your response. Something around 2000 rs is okay..

But now I got the bill in SMS of 4770 rs.

The work done is as follows

        1.Chain sprocket replacement
2.Oil seal change for 2 front shocks
        3.Fork bearing change
        4.Disk brake pad replacement
        5.Oil change
        6.drum brake shoe replacement

Is this 4770 rs reasonable if we include labour charges also?

          Chain+sprockets = 1100 rupees (approx)
Oil seals = 500-600 rupees approx
          Fork bearings = 400 rupees
Disk pads front = 400 rupees
          Engine oil = 240 rupees
Rear brake shoes = 150-200 rupees
          General service = 220 rupees

In addition to this, labor charges for individual work, + taxes. Based on above work it should be around 3200 rupees only.

Please get the bill and post the break-up here. We will see.

I've heard that Unicorn spare parts are costly and I too feel some of the items listed above are overpriced.

A pair of HH Hunk's fork seal costs only 244/-. Also the price of chain sprocket kit above is also on the higher side, but this might be the actual price of them as you wud've serviced it at Honda ASC.

Rather than the parts cost, the labor cost seems to be too high(may be that too Honda standard labor costs). Fork oil/seal change, brake fluid change, couple of cable changes together costed me only around 200 at HH ASC.

I guess the race steering kit is the same thing which is known as ball race, cone set, etc...
Wheel damper sets are the black rubber dampers in the wheel drum shown in the below link, it is at the rear wheel.
