that's bad. Always stay with your bike and make sure they use new sealed can of engine oil.

This is one reason i avoid SC as much as possible - and i never go for castrol too - its the most counterfeited oil on the market - like other posters i too would urge people to not let the SC change oil - better to get it changed outside if they dont allow you to watch them change it in front of you .

i have seen these shoddy practices in one bajaj where they used to drain out oil from one bike and pour that into other
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
            #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Have used valvoline champ, it starts turning dark only after 1.5k kms. Though oil's performance was very good.
Have used shell vsx (now known as ax7) it turned almost black after 500kms. This oil also performed very good.
Have used oem Honda 20w40 oil. It starts tuning dark after 500km and bike asks me to change oil after 1.2k kms and oil is not black but brownish.
And once power1 caused my tappets to be heard in just 500kms or so. I think it was fake oil.
From where does this carbon comes from when you are changing oil regularly? Its a oil degradant mostly.
Read experiences of ppl using FS oils.. all have to say that oil started to become dark brown after around 2000 kms and was working fine till 4000-5000 kms. Oil becoming very dark in less than 500 kms on a fairly young bike is oil issue/clearance issue. The same bike will not show similar oil darkening in FS oils.

All oil (used in petrol engines) comes with 0.5-2% dispersants. FS oil contain more dispersants. Mineral turns black sooner but FS doesnt.

This is a real shocker, in such cases, can we carry our own engine oil bought from a trusted source to the SVCs? Rather change the oil ourselves and get the rest of the job done later.

More importantly, if you are very sure of this Mal-practice and that it was not a one-off case, get some solid proofs and report to Yamaha. Write to the engine oil company as well, is it Motul?

I change it by myself, but purchase the oil from them only. But now i would go for full synthetic oil for R15.

for my friends commenting about standing next to the bike while servicing.
whats the guarantee that the sealed oil bottle wont contain counterfeit oil

keeping in mind, there is a big racket behind it, backed up by some shady company, for whom sealing the oil bottle wont be a big deal

these companies, clean the old oil + mix some new genuine oil, even if you look at the color, its hard to make out if its fake

call up the yamaha CC and tell you issue and ask them about the case where you are entitled to provide your own oil with the clause of preserving the warranty!
if they dont agree, ask for immediate action against the particular SVC

the problem is even i complain, i don't have any concrete proof about their activity.
they would simply refuse such act.

                            hey Abdul,

Your doubt is very genuine and as far as the reliability on the quality of oil goes, its a tough game.

Going by feasible practical approach, inspecting the oil in clear glass/plastic bottle is the best approach. Suspended particles, small greasy chunks are signs of oil pilferage. The best option is to carry the oil that you are sure of along to the svc station.

Viscosity testing and other methods of testing oil genuineness is absolutely not a viable option for Indian bikers for now.

Prevention (avoiding shoddy svc centre/mechanics/oil dealers) is better than cure.
