  • Help - Front disc setup of Pulsar 150

    Hi Guys,

I am not sure if this has already been discussed can someone tell me if the front disc setup of Apache RTR 180 can be used as a direct fit on Pulsar 150?

I am not so happy with my P150's front disc and was rather smiling ear-to-ear when I rode my friend's A180 and used the front BEAUTY brakes. I am refering to the brake line, petal disc and calipers as a set. If not then it is possible to use the brake pads as a direct fit provided it helps?

The feel is a bit spongy. Checked the pads, brake oil, everything was good, but may be the A180 brake feeling was missing.

@Mods : Please merge this thread if it was already discussed.
    Regards,
    Akash Yadav

      Thank you bhaiya.

Plan dropped. Going to change tyre to tubeless ones from Stunner or Dazzler. I hate those tube type, hard compound MRFs on my P150.

The offered some real good grip initially but now they suck big time. I can try to change the disc and compare sizes, diameter or best thing is the brake oil to DOT 4.

stay away from tvs tyres. Try MRF zapper but there more sticky tyres too. Refer ''Tyres'' thread.
        About disk brake:
what do you want to do? Restore its effectiveness or to upgrade its braking power. For restoring, changing few (stock) parts will do

I have had some really panic braking moments and I felt that its bite is not that good, but just OK. I rode my friend's Apache RTR 180 and was blown away by its bite. Do you think changing the oil to DOT4 spec will improve brake bite? Also, I hear a scratching sound everytime, even when I am dragging the bike. What should I do? I asked the service center guys to bleed the brake and use fresh oil, but they refused to work with the front disc setup.

DOT 4 works like a charm and I can vouch for it because I'm using it on my Discover 135, braking is just oh so awesome!!
You can also bleed it yourself, refer to DIY section for the same.
Check if your disc rotor is bent or your pads are permanently jammed against the rotor, if so changing a few parts would restore it to its pristine form.
Its the fusion of a two wheeled machine & a human being which creates a true biker.

when was the last time your brake oil was changed if its more than 1 yr back then get it changed. Braking performance and feel will definitely improve.
Still Want more braking power try getting a steel braided brake line. This will again improve bite. But sorry, i can't comment whether it will become like apache or not. But the things I mentioned is definitely compatible and will make your brake better than stock.
About that noise; it can also be caused by dirt. Try getting your brake pads and disk cleaned. And do note that after cleaning brake, it will stay kinda poor till first 5-10kms.
P.S. Sticky tyres & brake pads will also benefit braking.
And I must say tvs apache and flame does has powerful disk brake setup..

BTW i guess TVS runs a FAT 90/90 front tyre compared to Pulsars(More traction)..I changed my Pulsars front tyre to TVS 90/90 long ago and man did it do difference to braking!!!!

Instead of doing the costly mod of replacing the entire disk brake assembly i suggest to try and change the tyre first.See the handling and if you are still not

satisfied then go for disk brake change.
