    Gear Shift issues in Rx100

    Hi All,

    I have been having issues with changing gears in the bike; it is not as smooth as it used to be. Let me point out the different issues that I noticed over a period of time.

    1) Putting the bike in neutral has always been difficult. Sometimes I shift down to 1 and then go to Neutral.
    2) Sometimes when shifting from gear 2- gear 3; it tends to get stuck in between i.e it makes a very loud sound without any change in speed.
    3) The shifting issues now seems to occur while shifting between gear 2;gear 3 and gear 4(i.e all gears)

    Kindly provided your valuable inputs in resolving this issue.

        gearbox replacement needed
        Down the GEAR and DISAPPEAR

        Yamaha RD 350 (1984)

        Yamaha RX 100 (1995)

            Ask the mech to adjust the clutch ply and check. Also, using good grade oil might help in curtailing such loud noise while shifting gears. Usually Yamaha gearbox is robust and do not give up easily. However, you can look into the gearbox after.

              I am yet to hear of a gear box change in RX ...
              First ensure your clutch free play at the lever is only 3mm like Mr.Sriram indicated...use a good quality w40 oil in gear box and change every 3 K Kms..lastly pull clutch lever fully before changing gear...

                Check gear shifter rod, this rod connects the gear lever on outside, check the clutch basket (bell) check even primary clutch gear replace both of them along with new clutch plates pressure plates and new clutch cable.

                Use Castrol GTX 20w50 for gear box.

                After all doing this, if the problem still persists then the gearbox teeths would have worn out.

                  Friends, can anybody tell me about the shift cam shaft. When i dismantled my rx100 engine, the shift cam had only three cylindrical rods and 1 dowel pin while one hole was empty. What is the original number of pins and dowels are there in the shift cam and where can i get these

                    Its fine. Thats how its supposed to be in the rx 4sp gb.

                        There are 5 holes but i have 3 cylindrical rollers or rods to put in

                          Yamaha's Rx100s gearbox are almost bullet proof and never needs replacement so don't be in a hurry of replacing gear box, check the clutch play and get the internal mechanism checked, use good quality semi synthetic oil from Motul, iam using 20w50 of motul and let me tell you the gear box has become much more smoother after using this oil.

                            If you are expecting 5 pins n dowels, you shouldnt. The 4sp gb has 3 pins n 1 dowel. Like wat u got. 5 sp has 4 pins. So dont worry. Its fine.
