  • Queries reg new P180

    Hi folks,

I have few queries regarding new pulsar 180 which i got just 2 days back! ODO reading is 14kms only.

The idle rpm is set to 1.2k by the showroom guys.
The engine however goes up to 2-2.5k rpm on starting the bike like auto choke, comes back to 1.2k after opening the throttle slightly.
Idle rpm stays at 1.2k when driven for short distance say 2-3 kms.

However when driven for say 6-8 kms the idle rpm reaches to 2k when about to park.

Is it normal??? I don't have a clue as am new to bajaj's bikes. (Previous bike TVS Apache)

Also the bike feels stiff(in terms of suspension) and underpowered as compared to used p180 (my roomies own one).

I would visit the SVC next week so will surely check with them but still would like to know if its common norm across pulsars?? (I read few posts on the forum regarding same and people suggest that the bike would open up & smoothen after 1st service)

    Thanks!!

    Topic Approved.

Yes, all these things seem absolutely normal. I'm have not experienced Autochoke personally, but Idle rpm does get raised as the engine heats up, for mostly all the bikes, including RTR also I think.
If the suspension is set on a hard setting, you can loosen it a bit.

The bikes do smoothen over time, specially after the first service so don't worry. Do get the oil changed though.

The new Pulsars have 17 PS instead of 15 PS in the older classic pulsars (180). This is due to tuning changes over time.
But this more power has resulted in lesser low end torque. I have myself ridden a 150 UG2, 180 UG3, and 180 UG4. And surprisingly, the 150 UG2 had the best launch from standstill among all these bikes.

So, if you feel lesser torque at low rpm's than its quite normal, and to stay ahead you should rev higher. Keep it around 4000 rpm for normal city riding.

NOTE: Until it doesn't complete 2000 kms on the meter, don't cross 5000 rpm.

does your bike has auto choke?

Thanks for the approval and responses guys..
No it does not have auto choke i mentioned it behave like auto choke

Yep will take care of the rpm part for run in period.

However, could anyone let me know does headlight on/off plays any part in idle rpm?? I noticed that idle rpm stays at 1.2k when light is on and increases to 1.8k-1.9k mark when lights turned off. (may be am over analyzing the bike )
