  • Pulsar150 UG2 Valves bent 2nd time in 2 weeks

    Hi All,

    History of Bike-
i have a P150 UG1 2006 model done 55k Kms. Piston was changed at 44k Kms, bike is on Petronas semi synth for last 15k kms and i change engine oil at 2k km every time, yesterday i changed oil to Motul 15w50.

    Now the Problem-
fortnight ago the Bike refused to start up, when i took it to mechanic he said valves are bent ,he opened the engine and one valve was bent so i got it replaced .today i started the Bike, it started with a annonying sound from engine . on revving up the voice goes up and becomes more annonying of like metal hitting metal so i think it is valve issue again. now i kept it running in idle for some time and now it doesn't start . kick lever doesnt goes down.. so i think piston is gone :O

i am not able to understand this valve issue. why this keep on happening again and again? Mechanic also said this is machine and it can break on it s own . i was amazed at his irresponsible answer (Mechanic refers to himself as Doctor of Motorcycles, his skills are ok) what i should do ? get it replaced again ?? but what if it keeps bending again.. Market value of bike is 13K and i have already spent close to 8-9 k in last 6 months on the bike to keep it in top shape.

i am really confused as to what to do , this is my first bike so i am reluctant to let it go.

can u confirm which valve was bent-inlet or exhaust?

earlier when valve was bent was it due to excessive high speed running?

i.hope engine oil level is ok.

Looks like you had failure of the valve cotters. Most of the mechanics never replace them whereas they are supposed to be replaced every time the valve springs are removed.

The cotters must have come loose causing the valve to drop into the chamber.

        They look like this

and go above the valve spring retainer, you can see the two halves in the picture

It makes no sense selling the bike now. I have 1 question. Was this service you are taking of done in an authorized service center?? Remember, its true that labour charges would be little high but the installment of any such major component will be covered under warranty and any such negligence is liable to be repaired by them again free. If its a local mechanic. I am sorry that your vehicle broke down on you. Get to the nearest Bajaj authorized service center and get it inspected.

-For repairs like these even though its costly go for authorised workshop or a trusted mechanic. Most mechanics get trained on 2 strokes and they dont even know the mechanical differences between 2 and 4 stroke correctly.
-Valves can't go bent immediately and you can hear abnormal noises from engine.
-If the exhaust valve is that which has gone bad check airfuel ratio as lean mixtures also damages exhaust valves in long run.May i ask if you are running a free flow exhaust as it is the most probable case if exhaust valve is damaged.
Whenever i see bikes or cars i see adrenalin pumps instead of people carriers.Thats the way to define an automobile.

Thanks for your replies , i never knew this thread was live, i had got the bike fixed on 20th itself.

yes it was failure of valve cotters as mentioned by Gyroerror. it had splitted into two, i think it had broken last time itself and mechanic failed to detect it.

engine oil level was fine but yes i was doing some hard run day before the valve bent first time.

Have done 400km after valve replacement ,bike is doing good.
Mechanic gave me silly excuse that it is due to faulty petrol.

Going through this thread cleared my mind .
