  • Calculating non-reserve capacity of RTR 160

I filled up the tank a few weeks ago for checking FE and reset the trip meter. It is nearing reserve.

I'll take the reading of trip meter as it hits reserve. How do I calculate the fuel consumed? Manual says 16L capacity with 2.5L reserve, while on many websites (incl xbhp) I saw "Usable reserve: 1.7L".

I'm confused as to whether I should consider 16-2.5=13.5L as the fuel used, or 16-1.7=14.3L.

    Query Approved

Going entirely by the specs, fuel used it 16 - 2.5 = 13.5 liters. Usable reserve means you cannot use the last (2.5 - 1.7 = )0.8 liters of petrol remaining in the fuel tank.

In practice, I guess, fellow RTR160 owners can help you better.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

You can use a normal simple formula to calculate the mileage of your bike, just note down or reset your trip meter to zero when ever your bike hits to reserve and then fill the petrol 2-3 liter as you want, again note or check your trip metre when the next reserve will come, check the difference in KM and you can calculate the mileage by devicding the litre of petrol to no of kilometers between these two reserves...

antz: thanks, I think that clears my doubt.

Itsmevini: that wont work if I'm not near a pump when it hits reserve. Also, larger the kms, more accurate it will be,plus the fact I'm logging kms done on a full tank right mow...

The method itsmevini123 said is the best... you still have 1.7L of petrol to run before you are out, so you can run that much before you fill up. And you can always fill up as much as you want and use those figues.

I understand your confusion as I had the same when starting off riding
This is how my dad explained it to me
Say you hit reserve at odo reading 0
You run 40kms before filling up, say using up 1L of petrol. So when filling up, your od0 reads 40.
You fill up 10L. Now this 10L, will fill up the used 1L of reserve and will come to 9L above reserve.
And lets assume you hit the next reserve at odo 400.
So reserve to reserve, you ran 400kms on 10L fuel...
