honda stunner mileage prob :( Help required

    honda stunner mileage prob :( Help required

    Hi I am Akash and i own a stunner (2011). i get a very low mileage of 40 kmpl..
    I have recently serviced my bike with new engine oil and new air filter...
    the service mechanics have messed up my air-screw tuning due to which my mileage and pickup is too low...


    please help on how many turns should i keep the air screw at when i have fully closed it....currently mine is at 2 full turns from fully closed...i get 40 kmpl with this tuning and a very low pick up....

    pls tel me the optimal no of turns when the air screw is fully closed....

      Firstly, Where do u stay?
      Secondly, Which air filter? wer is it fitted?Jet pipe size ? hve u increased it aftr new air filter if u hve got k&N kinda stff?

      Air Screw Tuning will take you like a couple of days to tune up if you are doing it yourself..Increase ur idle RPM, adjst d screw..keep on doing it....

      Go to a nice mechanic who playz around wid bikes well..

      Suggestions given here wont suffice fully..Anywys tke care..n gud luk wid ur repairs..

        Kindly do not give such 'replies'/'advice' ! if you can explain the procedure to tune a carb it would be helpful.

          1. How did you calculate your mileage ? 40 is low, you should get around 50ish..
          2. Can you remove the spark plug & let us know the color of the electrode? (black/dark brown/whitish)
          3. Try fuel from another bunk & also maintain the recommended air pressure in the tyres.
          3. Can you go to another service center & ask them to tune the carb ? Or speak to the service supervisor and try to get someone good at setting the carb up do it for you.
          4. If you still can't get them to fix this up, i suggest you write to honda ([email protected] & [email protected]) - you will get a call in 24-48hrs.
          5. Can you locate a reliable mech in your area ? ask around and look for workshops..
          If you want a DIY... then AntzBin had a carb tuning DIY in his signature earlier...that's how its supposed to be done.. if he can post the link to it here

            Did you got its spark plug replaced?
            As we talked, try with 3.75 full turns of fuel screw. Note: 360 degree turn = 1 turn.

              Hi Honda_CBF

              i tuned as u told me to do....ya (360 degree is a full turn)...i kept it at exactly 3.75 wen fully closed...
              my spark plug and air filter are new....(honda air filter), ngk g power spark plug....im getting a low mileage now...
              shall i keep it at 3.25?
              i think 3.75 is rich

                HI,
                i calculated the mileage from reserve to reserve... like note reserve reading, fuel , drive till it hits reserve again....
                im doing this from past a week.... avg mileage is around 40...
                I infact tuned it from honda service ppl.... even after that it dint work....
                Im fed up goin to honda regarding this.... they are not knowledable and its of no use.
                can i know the approx turns when the air screw fully closed for stunner?

                  If it is air screw then closing it will make the mixture rich and at opening lean.
                  Air screw should be adjust when the engine is warm.
                  Drive it for 5-10 mins to make it warm and stand the bike on main stand and increase the rpm to upto 2500 or 3000
                  now close the air screw, as u close the rpm will start decreasing.
                  When u completely close the screw, start opening it and u'll notice the rpm is increasing
                  now keep rotating it slowly until u reach the highest (peak) rpm (this is the correct AFR)
                  Leave the screw there, if u open it more the rpm will decrease and will make the mixture lean.
                  So adjust it as i've told u and u'll get the maximum mileage out of it.

                    stunner has fuel screw, near the engine, away from air box. it controls fuel flow, not the air flow. when you close it, it leans the mix and vice versa.


                    me getting good mileage with 3.75 turns. its neither rich nor lean, its kinda optimal. most mechanics down here used to set it at 3.5 turns. its little on the leaner side, makes my bike overheat on highways.. when (my) engine gets too hot it gives knocking (pinging) kinda sound when ridden below 3k rpm.

                      so ill warm up the engine... after driving for few kms ill tune it...
                      ill increase the idle so that rpm is 2000... now ill fully close the air screw and then start unscrewing it
                      as u said , rpm will start incresing... so i have to keep it at max rpm position rite?

                        but i set my bike to exact 3.75...but my mileage is less than 40....
                        gotta tune again as paul said

                          at the max rpm point, if you still continue to unscrew, rpm will start falling.. now its running rich. go back to max rpm point. and do this all screwing - unscrewing of fuel screw while idle is set at around 3500 rpm. while tuning, look for the max rpm point where it does not flickers.All the best!!And its 'FUEL' screw not air screw.

                            i suggest you try the 'full tank to full tank' method, i.e. fill up the tank fully and ride for around 100km, then refill fully. The km travelled divided by the fuel that goes in is your average kmpl. Did you check your air pressure ? And try with a stock spark plug.
                            I suggest you forget the 'x no. of turns' and start from scratch as per paul's post to tune the carb. tuning a carb is learnt by experience
                            Or write to honda and get the mileage checked using that '100ml' bottle from the ASC ( you might want to minus half a km from that figure ) so if you get 4km/100ml it would be safe to assume its 3.5km/100 = 35kmpl.
                            And i hope your clutch plates are in good condition.

                              air pressure is correct... and i tuned from scratch...i got the peak rpm at 4 turns approx....let me check my mileage this time...lets see...
