  • Custom paint for Royal Enfield

    Hi,

I would like to get my RE an all Matt black finish. Like the custom Harley in the picture.

Can anyone tell me what is the process (layers of color required, any shiner etc if required) and the paint required to get such a finish.

Looking forward to your valuable comments.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I can think of two options...
        1. Matt finish paint
        2. Powder coating

Thanks Argee Sir for your reply. Can u tell me more about the powder coating. Also will there be a anti-rust coating first and then all the layers of matt finish paint or it could be directly applied also any suggetions on how many layers of matt paint are required.

Up to you & $$$ as how much needs to be spent; for a place in Chennai, I wouldn't spend a single penny towards anti-rust (fedup!!!); yes, Anti rust will be before primer & painting

Directly means??? Layers of Matt??? Just 1 or 2 coats is sufficient. The most toughest job is...finding a right person for the job; if you get that, everything else is easy

That I don't know Like I said before, doing a job is much much easier than finding the RIGHT person to do the job; I haven't come across such a person, who's so passionate & professional in doing his job. So I don't know about the cost either.

The place where I live do not have any professionals who can do this, So I thought of gaining some knowledge before I get it done, my past experiences with bullet mechanics in my town have not been good, they charge heavily and also quality of work is poor. So this time if I go to a bike mechanic I want to go prepared with data.

@ Argee thanx a lot for your comment I have read a lot of your posts specially the one regarding CBR 250R. Loved the detailing in your posts.

@ S1D thnx for ur help.

Guess what.. I'm also looking for a paint job for my Rajdoot..

                        See this, http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...ming-cost.html

My initial plan was olive green.. I read this thread and asked my mechanic if Matt Black would be good for my Rajdoot. We, right way went to the paint guy and were asking.. He showed us some samples.. I was not really convinced and went back to my initial plan of having military olive green.. But I'm not sure if I would ever regret this change of plan.. Ll see.. It is costing my 10,000..

Military Olive green too looks awesome and u can have a combo of Olive green and Matt black (just a suggestion). Check out Rajputana Custom Motorcycles , these guys have some very good looking bikes in Green (but not military green exactly). Also kindly post pics of your Rajdoot once ready.

All the best with the restoration. I am sure you will love it once done.

Spot on mate. Thats what I have asked too. Olive green for the tank and the body and mudguards too. Matt black for engine case and bore. I should hang on for some more weeks before I could see the final version.

Pics, ofcourse, I would. I'm loving every moment of this restoration actually.
