  • Kicker for Pulsar200/220

    Hello Friends,

I am thinking to go for a Used Pulsar200 DTS-i.

I have a doubt whether we can go for a kicker for it or not..??

Do anybody watched or know any information for adding kicker to it...?? Some may say that it may not be required..!! I want to avoid any situation that lead to drag my bike on road and start it..!! Also during winter its impossible to start with a simple/single drag in morning in my area..!!! I can spend 4K or more or less for that..!!!

Please help me in this regard..!!! Any comments or help is appreciated..!!!

@Mods: If its already discussed please merge or move thread. Thanx

But I don't see the need for one. My P220 has seen 3 winters till now, and there has never been any startup issues. Even night halts in Leh/Ooty/Srinagar/Manali haven't had any effect on the starter.

Out of the 4k budget, I would suggest you to buy a brand new Amaron Battery with 5 year warranty for ~1800/2000 and get the starter o/h with the rest. You will never need a kicker for the next 5 years.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

@Antz Thanx for the approval and your valuable experiences and inputs buddy.

I think P220 is more evolved than P200. (I think so) because it has autochoke and other stuff which makes the bike to startup in one crank. (To be frank dont know about P200).

Yes many have expressed that self start in P220 is good and didnt gave them problems.

I have P150 2005 model and it too has good startup even with single kick/ 2 self cranks. But i have encountered some startup issues during heavy rains and during servicing when water used to get into plug sockets and CDI sockets. In that situation by repeated cranking the battery used to get down, and kicker used to be a boon for me. By kicking the bike used to start at that time. Its a situation some may/may not encountered. (Even after cleaning sockets bike needs sometime to start at that situation where if batt gets down it will be an issue)

Hope you understand So i wanted know if theres any possibility to add a kicker to P200

About the 'more evolved' bit, let me tell you, the Autochoke on my bike has only worked like 11 times in the 3+ years I have had my bike, so it is not something which I would bet my money on. Anyways, if you do absolutely need a kicker, I know for a fact that it is possible to install one as there is space provided for the same inside the crank-case which would easily fit the kicker from the P180 UG3 / P150 since the designs are strikingly similar for both.

Also, when water gets into spark plug, nothing will work, kick or no kick. There is a small trick which can be used to rectify the problem which works like a charm on all DTSi (Pulsar/ Discover / XCD) bikes.

Remove the spark plug cable from the side where you feel there has been water seepage. This invariably is the cable attached to the RHS spark plug.
            Why RHS?
Because thats the side which is more exposed to rain in case the bike was parked in the rain on side stand. Thats also the plug which is used as the primary plug for operation below 6k RPM.

After you remove the cable, let go of it (don't hold it in your hand) and let it dangle somewhere where it is not touching any metal parts. Crank using starter and the engine should start using the 2nd (LHS) plug as primary (CDI makes the adjustment when it realizes that there is an issue with regular primary plug).

Idle the bike for a minute or 2 so that the water on the other side dries out and then you are good to go!!

                Nice tip there

Very good observation dude..!! Yes, when Pulsar is parked in side stand, and if it rains the water slides straight from the tank and from the sharp end lining of tank the water straight away falls on the RH wire..!!! I have watched it numerous times and made a habit of parking in centre stand while raining

Not opposing your thoughts. when i took my bike for missing problem to a probiking showroom, the mechanic demonstrated it for me. The RH plug supplies current upto 0 to 4-4.5K RPM and if the bike crosses above it, then LH plug comes to action. He said that this is how the plugs work in Pulsar. He concluded that LH plug has fault and replaced it. May be its for P150
