  • 2006 model Karizma issues... need help.

since a couple of day i am noticing a some issues regarding my bike. the issues are as following:

    1) When i started the bike and switched on my headlight, the light was quite dim and it was hard to see the road properly and even while idling the light of the headlight flickers constantly. just like the headlight of a yamaha rx135 does when its on idling.. As far as i know this should not happen as the headlight of the karizma is on the battery..

    2) The other thing i noticed is the pickup or acceleration of the bike has decreased and the bike struggles through the gears to attain speed, and to do that a lot of gear changes are required at higher rpms. This is happening when i am riding alone or even with a pillion.

    3) Also i have noticed that my bike's fuel effieciency has gone down like it is giving an average of 28km/litre. According to me its low because i used to get 35km/litre approx.

I had changed the battery some 3 months back so the battery must not be an issue.

so please help me to understand the problems in my bike and would really appreciate the much needed help from my brothers here in XBHP.

    Sohaibak.

Let us know how much has the bike done from 2006. Share some history if known from any previous issues faced etc.

Point 1: I would check the electricals including the RR unit connections and working properly. Also check the battery output. I think it should be atleast 13.5-14v output.

Point 2: There could be lot of factors attributing to the pick up and normal. Check the following:-
Carb, Airfilter, sparkplug, timing chain, chain tensioner, sprockets, fuel pipe for clog free supply, engine valves.

Point 3: If the above mentioned is looked into, mileage should improve.
        RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

My bike has done 37100 kms till now. I mostly use my karizma for touring as it is a very comfortable and reliable bike. I usually travel to my native town on this bike which is around 250 kms from pune. Well regarding the history of the bike its ha never been in any sort of accident and it has been well looked after.

But unfortunately there was an incident in the mid of 2011 when i was coming back to pune from my native place. I was driving at 85 to 90kmph and after covering a distance of 65kms suddenly the kick of the bike came down and hit my leg and i just engaged the clutch and stopped the bike, parked it off the road and saw that the main kick has come down and just when i was going to turn the bike off i heard a "thuk" sound from the engine and it stopped. then i got of the bike and tried to analyze what happened, then under the bike i saw oil leaking and some pieces of the left side engine body and i could also see that some pieces are missing on the bike as well. At that point i realized that there is a great problem and the bike wont be going anywhere, so then called up my mechanic and anyhow towed the bike back to my native town. Then the mechanic brought down the engine opened it up and came to know that one of the main engine bearings is the culprit. while running it broke due to which this happened and he also said that before breaking the bearing gives a type of sound but unfortunately i couldn't notice it and due to which my drive shaft got damaged, 3,4,5 gears from the gearbox got damaged, the left side engine casing got damaged and many pieces were missing from it.checked the con rod , piston etc were ok no damage could be seen.

But i got it fixed, changed all the damaged parts, and also changed the timing chain, chain tensioner, engine valves, stock airfilter, sparkplug, even had to change the sprocket kit due to some marking on it after the incident.
well that was a very sad day but anyways things do happen, and now my bike is perfectly fine, no engine issues etc... and @Sriram already had changed the things you have mentioned except the carb. i change my fuel pipe every 5 to 6 months..

I previously made my mechanic to check the electricals and he said they are fine. The battery is also fine giving 13.5v.
He said that there might be an issue with the REGULATOR if the bike, but have no idea if the a bad regulator would cause this low light problem, i even checked the fuse box under the seat, removed each and every one and checked them, all of them look good.

On the low mileage part i think i might need to get the carb opened up, cleaned and tuned. That should not be the issue..

and on the acceleration part i am clueless? why is this happening? the engine sound if good no prob, just a little knocking sound that all.

          thanks for ur reply Sriram,
          cheers,
          Sohaibak

First of all the flickering of Head light shows you are getting A.C voltage and not DC. The Karizma has Three phase generator and if one connection is bad or in rectification this will happen. So check..
            1. Connection to the RR unit..there is a plug-in connector into RR which should be cleaned and connected.
            2. Start engine and let it idle....With a Voltmeter in AC range check voltage on the three Yellow color wires in the RR connector for Voltage..
If the voltage is good on all three Yellow wires then the RR unit is suspect...if the voltage is low or absent, then the stator unit must be checked and changed if defective.

              @ psr - one doubt -
is Karizma's headlight DC, connected from battery?

Yes all electricals runs from the battery, and if battery is bad the generator has enough power to run the entire system with 188 watts capability(15 amps)....but RR will heat up more than normal.

thanks psr for the information, will keep them in mind and check accordingly and see what is actually causing the headlight problem..
