  • Pulsar 150 UG2 Mileage Drop after Timing chain replacement

    Model: 2004 Pulsar 150 UG2
Recent Changes:Timing Chain replaced along with Di-comp due to noise(kit-kit-kit)
Problem:Mileage dropped from 60kmpl to 40kmpl. High pitch whining like sound from engine.
    status:S0lved

one more thing i have noticed is that there is a noise as if the timing chain is hitting the channel walls whenever there is load on the engine for e.g. when climbing a hill or if there is a person sitting behind. This noise is in all gears and vanishes if i revv up.Is this normal?

    Please help!

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Check whether the timing of valves are matched. A common problem when timing is changed. A mismatch of single teeth will cause mileage and power problem.Get the timing of valves checked.

Thanks sibun. The meach did seem to have set the timing but even i felt that he dint d it properly but kept quite as i have no knowledge in that. Will get it checked from another mech.is the whine noise because of the valves?

As it turns out the whining noise is due to over tightening of the balancer. The drop in mileage was due to the fuel i was filling from a particular pump.So all is well now.one more thing i have noticed is that there is a noise as if the timing chain is hitting the channel walls whenever there is load on the engine for e.g. when climbing a hill or if there is a person sitting behind. This noise is in all gears and vanishes if i revv up.Is this normal?
