  • Saving my Eyes at night from Dust

    Hello Bikers,

The problem I am facing is while returning to home from office a lot of dust goes into my eyes. If I pull my Helmet's (half-face) glass down, the light reflects and it becomes difficult to see at night although during daytime it works fine. I have 2 options
    1) Buy a new helmet with a transparent glass which doesn't reflect the light and I should be able to see clearly at night. shouldn't have dark glass which would hamper the view as the streets themselves are dark sometimes.
    2) Use the same helmet and buy a transparent driving glasses which won't reflect the light and have a clear view during dark. It should have transparent glasses not even slightly colored ones as it would hamper riding at night.
Budget can be 2-2.5K and extendable. I live in Bangalore (Kundanahalli Gate) so any good shops would help where I could get some good VFM deal.

    Thanks,
    Abhisek

Change your existing helmet visor to a transparent one. Keep it clean. Always clean it with water and soft cloth / tissue paper / newspaper. It won't scatter light then.

Alternately, get a new full face helmet with clear visor and do what I have written here. Full-face helmets are better, safety-wise, as compared to half face ones.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Personally I always have preferrred tinted visor's. And if you do need to ride at night, then a pair of clear lens specs.

I use my Vega helmet with a studds eyewear as my vega doesnt have visors. It surely better than standard vega visor.

Get yourself one of these or similar.

Performance Racing Store. Ariete MX Terra Motorcycle Goggles

If you can extend your budget look at daijya helmets they come with a retractable shades inside the helmet. So you have a outer clear visor and an inner dropped down tinted visor.

Buy Studds Rhyno, a VFM full face helmet at Rs. 1200.
It comes with clear visor, keep it clean and wear shades during the day. I'm using it since the last 1 year, must say its a good helmet.

Get an LS2 helmet with two sets of visors. One tinted and the other transparent.Solves both issues as they are easily detachable and re-attachable.Or if you are okay with modular helmets then the Vega boolean is a good choice it costs about Rs.1400-1600 has a clear main visor and an inner slide down goggle wich can be operated on the fly through a slider on the side of the helmet.

Sorry guys got busy as I have joined a new office so couldn't reply.
Thanks to all of you for your kind suggestions. Visited a good helmet shop in the vicinity of my stay.

@jishnu, thanks for your suggestion. I went to the helmet shop for the studds eyewear as it was a good, cheap option for now (just 100-250rs). Even ordered them but did not get them as he said the dealer didn't have the stocks. So I tried few helmets there.

@Abhijeet, Rhyno model comes at Rs.1390/- now and it wasn't available there I guess.

I tried some helmets and I found Studds 'Premium Vent' model very comfortable to wear and its glass was very clean and did not reflect (unlike some other clear visor helmets I tried). It also has a ventilation system on both sides which can be opened by sliding and can be closed again. At Rs.980/- it was a full bang for buck. The quality looks decent and it looks good in black color which I bought. My GF paid for the bill as my Bday gift :P . I also bought 2 beany caps and 1 helmet locker. And yes Anant was right so I went for a full face helmet for safety and I wanted some helmet in which I don't feel packed. Studds Premium Vent is a good helmet for those facing this problem.

                This is the helmet http://studds.com/ProductDetail.aspx...230&itemID=111

I'd use the fast track aviators with amber lenses. I agree they dont look "cool" but they are really good for night rides as they help reduce glare from oncoming vehicles and don't cut out the visibility.

Changing the helmet or its visor is a good thing, but its a short term fix for me as I am usually successful in getting scratches on the visor while carrying it around. It tends to drop off my bike when left unattended. That has never happened with my aviators. You can also try some good polarized clear lens glasses.

i personally have experienced that helmet used daily their visor's get scratched or dull which makes them to reflect light!! Get them replaced periodically mine is changed in every 4-5 months. Because i use it in night also. So i don't take a risk of that!

Correctly said somen. And the Studds Premium Helmet I bought has a different glass from other studds helmets (apart from scorpion). This has Polycarbonate Silicon visor and is written scratch resistant. Others have acrylic visor written on them and were reflecting. I tried all and went on the roads. This was clear as naked eyes. But would change visor if scratches appear.
