  • Problem With my Dads Discover 100cc.....>plz help

    Hi guys,
My dads Discover 100 has some weird problem.. First when u start the bike after a stop,it lags for some time(i mean it fells like smthng is blocking the petrol) and it even shuts off most of the times...... Told to svc many times and the problem never rectified...i even tried to adjust the AFR manually still it doesnt work... And when u rev it Black smoke comes...Also the chain keeps on making a tick tick noise......Again told to svc many times they adjust it and still the noise comes...DOnt know wats the problem.... Consulted a local mechanic and he said,,he needs to check valve timing and cylinder head.... Am not sure abt him so just wanted to ask u guys.....Please Help...My odo has clocked 20k and spark plug has never been replaced...

What kind of chain noise do you get? Is it a slapping noise of the chain touching the chain cover? Or is it a rhythmic tic-tic?

Black smoke equals incomplete combustion. Try changing Spark Plugs and the Air Filter. If you read the manual, you are supposed to change both of them every 10k km (you have already done double that no. on the spark plugs).
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

change the spark plug/s and air filter as suggested by antz.bin.....black smoke usually shows incomplete combustion....do get your valve timing set as suggested by the mechanic....these steps will sort out your bike's problem....if not then only open the cylinder head...

It is not a sign of blocking petrol but a sign of blocked air flow. Check your air filter and replace. Also change the spark plug. And clean the carburettor and re-tune.
No need of checking valve timing. It cannot mess unless somebody manually messes with it.
Do the above three as mentioned and your bike will run like new.

it should be valve clearance done through tappets....

Why not. Yes u can clean if you are a DIY.
Check your owners manual for the recommended spark plug number. Bosh & Mico both are same. But go for Champion plugs.

Yes. change your spark plugs and the air filter.

Recomended spark plugs are : Champion PRZ9HC or Bosch UR4AC...

but before changing the plugs be sure of the numbers as i have changed the plugs of my discover from Bajaj SVC and they installed a hotter plugs. even most of the local mechanics change the plug with whatever is available to them. i would suggest to buy the exact plugs yourself and change by yourself. it is very easy or take them to any bike mechanic and replace them.

MICO is same as Bosch AFAIK . but not sure about its heat range and product number.
