    Help: Complete Makeover/Service old Caliber Croma

    Hello,

    My 10 years old kawasaki caliber croma (bajaj) needs some serious servicing.

    RPM has gone higher in ratio compared to previous with the gear shifts and speeds. Silencer is making more sound. Vibration is high. Tyre has never been replaced has become very unstable. It has run only 28K KM so far though.

    For some reason I can't sell it off but have to use it for another year or more may be. So I'm looking for a nice service center in Bangalore. Have bad experiences with bajaj. So I need info with the following-

    - Service Centers in Bangalore. If anyone personally knows any. I'm off to JC road this weekend to search.
    - Can I use wider tyres for it. The rear tyre is 3.00 * 18 and front is 2.75 * 18 (Disc Brake). Both MRF Nylogrip Zapper. If yes, what will be the outcome.
    - Can I apply another bike's silencer like discover, pulsar 135 etc. Garage guy told he can apply only from CT100. I want a better smooth sound. Not loud.

    Your bike desparately needs new clutch plates and new tyres.

    MRF makes good tyres, stick to the brand. Upsizing shouldn't be required.
    Advice is a form of nostalgia.
    Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Replace clutch plates , spark plugs , get a good engine oil ( synthetic preferred ) , you can change the tyres too. but using wider ones will drop FE , and friction will be higher. better stick with stock dimention. check with the MRF website for tyre available.

      Adding Disc to front wheel is possible but you need to change a lot of things , the tyre Rim , the fork , and more. and it will cost you near around 5000 or more AFAIK. but i would not recommend this. use asbestos type brake shoes (ANL / ASK brand) it is good enough to stop your bike unless you are a insane driver. My discover stops good enough with stock drum ones.

      I think any silencer will fit in your bike you just need to go for some welding. as the caliber silencers are straight and discover , pulsurs, etc are tilted upwards so they may cause some fitting difficulty. if welding job can be done then i would advise you to go for discover's silencer / platins's . as they are built for low cc bikes. pulsur ones may cause some more decrese in fuel economy i think.

        There could be problem with clutch which results in RPM going high compared to engine revolution. The loud exhaust sound will be due to holes developed in Silencer, Caliber silencer used to corrode early. A bad clutch will cause increased vibes. Also check for any smoke from exhaust when you rev the bike hard.

        You can try bigger tyres like 3.25 * 18, 100/90 * 18, though the mileage might reduce a bit. But do check the clearance between your current tire and swing arm, if it is too less, there could be chance of tire rubbing swing arm

        The garage guy is right I think, CT100 silencer would be the most apt one for Chroma, even some last batches of Caliber was coming with silencer that is the same as CT100's silencer. You should be able to get it fitted without any modification.
