  • Want to buy a second hand 150 cc in Bangalore... Please help..

Guys I am looking for a 150 cc bike with budget of around 30000. I have shortlisted 2006-2007 model Pulsar and 2007-08 model Unicorn.

Which one would be better? And secondly, what will be the best way to buy. Someone suggested VV Puram market... Another guy suggested SPM motor world in Frazer town. Will they be safe?

    Please help..

    Looking forward to your replies..

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

There are actually several websites from where you could eliminate the middle/broker and get in touch with the owner directly. Here is something of your help perhaps (Buy Bajaj Pulsar 150 in Bangalore. Second hand Bajaj Pulsar 150 in Bangalore, Karnataka. Page 1 - Bikes4Sale). quicker, olx etc etc.

If already from Bangalore and know a local mechanic, ask him he would be of help.

My suggestion is to avoid middle/brokers as they tend to make easy money and also push a bad run bike may times.

+1, dont go for second hand bike markets, there will be lot of bikes looking good there.
All will be cleaned, polished, and you'll fall in love at first sight!

Check for bikes in quikr, olx, sulekha etc. and contact the owner directly. Take a local mechanic you know with you when going for checking the bike.

Check for number of kms run on the odometer(that may not be right though).
Check the service history in the owners manual.

Keep in mind that most of the 150cc bikes will require engine overhaul around 40k kms.
The mechanic should be able to help you on checking the condition of the engine.

            Depends on your preference.

Pulsar - more power, less expensive spares, more goodies like lcd speedo, LED tail lamp, good mileage

Unicorn - smooooooth engine, good mileage, engine lasts bit more than Pulsars, better handling

Unicorn have better resale value and most of the Unicorns after 2007 (with Chrome HONDA badging) are listed normally with high prices.
Check out quikr/olx B'lore for prices in your area.

My another reliable source is the Team-bhp classifieds section (Check here)
For 30K a 07-08 Unicorn would be doubtful but you could definitely get a Pulsar. All the best

why not a new bike with a dp of 30k and emi of 1 yr ?? This will be more raliable and tension free bike!! And second hand dealer would sell you with their comission of 10-15k. New is better!! P135 or P150 or SZr are some bikes in range of 60ish check it.

When I wanted to buy a bike I started 2 threads in xbhp seeking advise on second hand bikes. After a lot of advise decided that second hand bikes not my cup of tea.My friend brought a r15 v1 second hand for 85k.(Almost 10k run,I think 1 year old).Had to change rear tyre, chain sprockets etc for almost 10k.So total 95k.Another friend brought pulsar 150 first hand. That p150 can smoke the second hand r15 anytime.R15 was really abused by the previous user I think.

                      +1 to the scenario!!
But i am thinking was your friend a nut ?? R15 getting smoked by P150 ?? so it was in preety bad shape !! And while TD the bike this should have been noticed, but i guess he wasn't aware of R15 power...So he brought this!! R15 is one of the best Engineered bike capable of 130Kmph and excellent handling braking!!

It was surely not his day!! But if he gets R15 fixed (probably FI issue or air filter or Clutch plate issue) then again that R15 which is now 95k by him would become worth more than a new P150!!

But Still a new bike is a new Bike!! Second hand is Second hand!!

Yes, 150cc bikes need to be selected with more care than 100cc commuter bikes. Most of 150cc bikes would have been used by young folks who would need to extract most bit from them from the day 1.

                        Some pointers -
                        - look for a bike that has run less than 30k
                        - check for front tire, the front tire would last more than 30k, seeing the tire wear you can calculate approx. life of bike(this doesn't hold true if the front tire has been changed already!)
                        - get a test ride, try to rev the bike hard (if the owner is not sitting rear), see for the performance.. Once you finish test ride, check silencer tip for black oily residue. While in neutral, rev hard and check for any visible smoke from silencer. If oily residue/smoke is there stay away from it, as the bike is due for an engine overhaul !
                        - other parts of the bike, which will cost you much for replacement and need to be checked are battery, clutch, chain/sprockets, tires, shock aborbers

Let experts bring out more points.
Also you can check a recent thread in Help Me section regarding buying Pulsar 200. There are some valid points there noted down by experienced members.

I know guys that a new bike is a new bike.. There is no alternative to it..

But my scenario is different.. I already have a new pulsar 135LS at home in Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) .. I could have brought it here in Bangalore but there are a few reasons why I a, not doing it.

The first being that my father uses it sometimes.
The second reason is that if I bring it here, I will have to pay some tax(as it is CG registered), which if I am not wrong is almost 6-8 K in Bangalore.
The third reason is that I am going to stay here for another 1 and a half years max..
And the last one being that at the moment I am in a bit of financial crunch.. So dnt want to invest much..

If I buy a second hand bike I believe I won't fall in love with it as much as if it would have been a new one.. And you know how much it pains when you have to sell off a bike you love so much especially when it is first hand..

Thats why I opted for a Pulsar or a Unicorn which are fast moving and have decent resale value in the second hand market...

Sorry guys, just my take on the situation..

Last day met a TV mechanic,he has to travel a lot due to his works nature. He told me he will use the bike until chain, sprocket wears out, rear tire has no grip left.By the time the bike would have clocked more than 100k kms, engine would need overhaul. He exchanges his bike for a new one.He uses engine oil used in trucks at that time cause no smoke appears even in very high revs.Be careful of such stuff.Go for p150,spares are cheap,if you mess up and buy a crappy bike!

Don't give scares to people here.
10-15K commission for a two wheeler is no where heard of. Hes buying a commuter not a superbike.
