  • help me with my fazer..

    hello fellow bikers,
i have a 2012 yamaha fazer.lava red.the bike has currently has done 7300kms.the bike is really gud in the city the accelration from 0-75km/hr is great.i know we actually consider 0-60km/hr and 0-100km/hr.till 80-85 the bike performs really gud after that it becomes really boring.i know this is a common problem with fazers/fz's.i dont carr about the topspeed if it is 120 it shud stay 120 or if it increases about a very small number i dont mind.i jus want the power of the bike to increase the "bhp or PS" mayb by 4-6bhp or more.and i really dont want my bike to have a very big sound.if it increases a little bit that the stock one wid the midship muffler gud.if it stays the same the also np.now i have searched to much about different ways to increase the power of the bike.the following wer the solutions i got-
1.get k&n air filter the mosst common thing told.
after reseaching a lot i came to know that this just increases sound and accelaration nothing of great potential.
wat are your views about this?
2.get raceconcepts 180cc borekit, racing carb, exhaust, air filter.the total cost came to be about 18.7k.i couldnt go beyond 9-10k.and then a decided to go for the 180cc bore kit and d racing carb.dat wud go about 9.5k with shipping.then had a talk with a friend and he told me that dont go for the bore kit as a friend of his had got the 200cc bore kit on his apachrtr180 and that thing could take the kit finally was sold to crap.my bike is precious to my like every one else here i would want it to go to a scrapyard cause of some mods.
can any give mt their views about this bore kit and racing carb?
3.to get a modified exhaust from outside.one person called prakash has made after market exhausts for fz/fazers here in pune itself.well i read about the changes but 0-100values given wer 16secnds which i dont think was a great improvemnt after spending 6.5k on the exhaust.i have another option as to get race concepts exhaust.which one would be better?any other option?
now i am in big dilema.
1.my bike would have all these mods after 10k kms.which would be done soon due to some oustation trips.so even after 10k kms is it safe to go for these mods?
    2.what are the risks involved?
3.i can maximum stretch to 10k.actually dont want to go beyond 7-8k.10k i would spend for smethng safe reliable and wich actually shows me difference in perfomance.
now fellow xbhpians pls help me decide.
    budget=7-8k(max 10k )
requiremnt=safe reliable ways to increase the power of the bike by 4-6bhp.
wen giving suggestions pls tell me the place also or the person i can get it done from and how safe it would.
    thnx in advance

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      1. Your understanding is right, there is not much performance that can be gained thru K&N, its just a feeling that your bike's HP has increased with that roaring sound. You can even get that sound if you remove the air filter cover . But its not safe and don't do that.
      2. Regarding Joel's kits, majority has commented that they improve the power and FE, though there are a few who did have bad experiences. Hope you would've read the experiences from both the groups in xbhp.

You could experiment with sprockets, put a bigger carb, ffe would give some power bump.

Just changing this filter will not give you much, for sure, but if you opt for further although not excessive modifications, going for this K&N filter - or an other one that can be fitted in the airbox - will be needed

There have been many comments on RC/ Joel's kits for R 15 and some others, and also for FZ 16. It appears that, although there has been problems with the R15 ones, the FZ 180cc. kit appears trouble free.
Then, being on a limited budget, the biggest and most immediate improvement in power/ torque will be given by the BB kit on its own. This will not be really enough though, and I would very much recommend that you have your cylinder head ports reworked by Joel himself. This is a basic of bike engine mods. You will have to send him your cylinder head....and probably wait....and wait...as this person appears to be really busy! If you can't wait, perhaps some clever mech can do at least the basic ports "cleaning" for you.
Carb: just keep the stock one, but you will have to get it re-jetted by some capable mechanic.

You may also consider RC camshaft to help your engine breathing even better.
Exhaust: it seems you may not like the noise of the FFE from RC, or any other. Then just take off the also called "midship" muffler, and that will remove many of the restrictions, without increasing too much the sound of the exhaust (Joel's info).
now i am in big dilema.
1.my bike would have all these mods after 10k kms.which would be done soon due to some oustation trips.so even after 10k kms is it safe to go for these mods?

That is not a new bike, sure, but not that old either. However, doing such mods as getting the capacity increased to 180cc. will need to make sure that the rest of the engine will take it. You may have to get the crankshaft bearings changed (means opening the engine completely), and surely need a valve grinding - or better: replacement (and grinding). Quite possibly camshaft chain, definitely new spark plug (NGK Irridium is THE one!), and you will be in running-in period again for a good 500 km (better say 1,000)!
now fellow xbhpians pls help me decide.

Joel's place, of course....if you can go there!
          thnx in advance

            Hi,
It has been extensively discussed on http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/pit-stop...ouse-fz18.html in Pit Stop & General biking discussion. I suggest you can get in touch with rider N-o-v-i-c-e who is also based in Pune and if at all he does permit you to touch his PReCIOUS , RC FZ18 then you will get an idea about the true nature of a BB engine along with other works rand then take a call regarding the same. Just plonking in a K&N will do no good will other way round lean out the AFR mixture seriously damaging your ride eventually.

Although this video has been shared a lot of times, for your reference do check out the fully souped up RC FZ's performance in top speed and the way it reaches there:

Now imagine doing a front sprocket 15T mod along with this power! your 0-100 kmph speeds will take a little bit more seconds to reach there and the gearing will change...however the top speed will be 130+kmph easily... if i am correct theoretically 140+kmph..Cheers,

Contact my bike mech. He is researching a 290cc or 300cc kit for me. If I go ahead with it, it will cost me around $700 + new exhaust, muffler to get the full potential out of it.

thank you for your guidance.i will check with my mechanic at my hometown and will discuss with him on the things decribed by you.only thing is opening the engine on a new bike is scaring me a bit.and something in me tells me that wait for 3-4years and then get the mods done with your own money (i am an engineering student now si finances from dad ) can u please suggest me some other mods which would require opening up the engine and stuff?
                  thanks again

about the sprockets a friend was recently telling me.but also added that the top speed would reduce.well the max i have touched on my fazer is 118km/hr.the top speed aint a problem for me but reaching three digit speeds is a pain.can u temme some sprockets some brand which will help me increaase the engine power out put or the bhp?
                      thanks
