    Mahindra Rodeo engine starting problem

    Dad got a Rodeo a year back.Within a month or so, it began to show this problem, the battery draining away instantaneously,say within a matter of hours.Moreover it needed much cajoling to start up with a kick, at least 10 kicks were needed.The dealer tried to rectify this by installing a relay, which we were supposed to switch off after operation of the scooter.Days passed fine but the problem has resurfaced again.Now,more kicks are needed[say30-40] to start her up.Needless to say, Dad is quite unhappy.
    We also had a Hero Puch EZ which had the same problem.One of my cousins tells that his Aviator was also very lazy to wake up and that starting problem is an inherent one on scooters due to small batteries.

    Folks, please throw some light![Otherwise my dreams of taking to Rodeo to Gulf scooter rally are at stake with dad selling her off!]

    Complain to the higher-ups of Mahindra 2 Wheelers to rectify the issue under warranty. We also happen to have a Rodeo in the household which happens to remain parked for 1-2 weeks most of the time but it never has startup issues. We have never even had to kick it till date (since March 2010). I am sure that the issue is a minor one and will be rectified.
    Advice is a form of nostalgia.
    Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Thank you for the prompt approval.Yeah sure we will contact Mahindra pronto.By the way, one of the dad's friends having a Rodeo[with starting problem] was told that the problem lies with the digital console.He changed it and his bike is running fine now but with no 'guarantee' of a breakdown. Is there any logic in this?

        faulty cdi's, electrical system/wiring ?? as long as the fuelling (fuel, fuel lines, carb) and air filter are proper.. i think most scoots have atleast a 12V 5Ah battery (rated higher than some motorcycles )
        i own a dio, and never had starting trouble..starts on the first kick/push of the starter (with choke sometimes in the mornings) and the only scoot i can remember that had to be kicked a few times at times was my kinetic honda (until i installed a manual choke i.e.)
        i've seen even scoots (honda's) that have been abused badly, staring with just the push of the button..
        and you mentioned something called a 'relay' which was supposed to be switched off after operation ? Do you mean a Choke ??

          rodeo fitted with 12V - 7AH battery i saw it in the manual.
