    Rx 100 - Third Party Insurance

    Hello Fellow Members,

    I have a RX 100 1991 model, its insurance was about to expire; so I approached a agent at the local RTO.
    He suggested that I should go for a third party insurance, finally I got it from "United India Insurance".

    I was told that this is the only type of insurance you would get for RX100, also he was not specific about the details of the coverage offered.
    Could someone throw some light on this type of insurance, its pro's and con's

    Advice is a form of nostalgia.
    Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      First not sure why did you go to RTO agent than Insurance company agent. Also, for older bikes none does other than 3rd party insurance. For details on 3rd party coverage, go to Insurance company and none could beat if it is from horse's mouth.

        Once a bike completes its validity(life) as per the RTO, mentioned on the bikes RC book, automatically the bike becomes unfit for use and the insurance companies treat it as high risk. Hence the insurance companies do not do a comprehensive insurance as most new bikes come with.

        There is nothing that can be done about this. Its good that you have a insurance atleast and the cops would not bother you. I have a 87 RX-100 and no insurance since 2002. Touchwood never needed one, but its important and will get one done when am ready to get the FC.

        Please let me know how much is the premium that you paid and how much did the agent charge you for the insurance.

          I had an '86 Kinetic Honda till about 10 months back (when it was sold). Never had any insurance issues.

          Still have a '88 Maruti 800 (Car) which has a valid 3rd Party insurance.

          The trick is to go to a PSU insurance company like New India or United and the likes. They CANNOT refuse you insurance as long as you want only 3rd Party. Its very unsafe to ride a bike without any insurance whatsoever, the law is just to ensure that you don't get in big big trouble due to your negligence/laziness.

            You get only TP for any motorcycle above 7 (or 10) years from PSU insurance companies; private insurance companies don't even cover them!!!

              +1 to Aargee.
              The insurance company be a nationalised or private co. provide insurance (both comprehensive and 3rd party) as long as there is a valid registration .i.e validity of the RC of the bike, once that expires no insurance company is ready to provide insurance unless until the FC for the bike is provided. Then again you need a insurance for processing the FC.

              There is nothing like "cannot" refuse insurance, its completely at their desecration to provide insurance or not.

                well u can get ur insurance done at any insurance company office like national etc.the charges are between 500/- to 600/- depending on the insurance company but in no circumstances they will go above rs 600.

                  A third party insurance costs around Rs 350 - 450. Incase you dont know,it has zero coverage over any loss or breakage. Its only use is,getting rid of being challaned by the cops.
                  I have the same for my 6 years old TVS Star city... While a normal insurance(with valid coverage) would cost around Rs- 700-1250(depending on the make).
