  • Mahindra Rodeo sound increased

I own a Mahindra rodeo .(have done 9000 kms)
During past a few days, my rodeo engine gives more sound than usual. The smoothness is gone. The problem started after that i accelerated all of a sudden one day.
What could be the reason for the noise?? How can i bring this back to normal?

I would also like to change the air filter to k&N .At present it is having a "sponge" like filter which is supported on steel net like structure.
Is it possible to change such a filter into k&n??
If i am changing to k&n , what are the benefits?

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

May be a tappets needs adjustment also check the oil level.

Do not change to k&n filter, foam type air filter are the best in the world. No filter can filter the air better than foam.

In a normal vehicle, sudden acceleration at any stage shouldn't result in a long term problem. I suggest you go for a service at Mahindra Authorised Service Centre. Noise can be due to following reasons:

        1. a leaking air filter or a damaged airbox,
        2. wrongly configured tappets, (get them corrected with a gauge),
        3. a broken, cracked or leaking silencer pipe,
        4. worn out clutch plates, (this MAY be the reason that you're facing right now, although its unlikely to happen at 9000 kms, but maybe it is?),
        5. rattling parts due to insulating rubbers being broken, etc.
        6. Engine running on low/ no oil,

I don't recommend K&N. K&N increases your vehicle's sound too. If you have to fit K&N under all cases, follow the below tips:

        1. first get your present sound problem solved, otherwise more & more problems might occur later,
        2. choose a K&N which is the same size and spec as your stock filter. Don't cut or modify it.
        3. Don't remove your stock airbox, fit your new filter into the airbox directly,
        4. Tune your carburetor with the help of a specialized mechanic, or an enthusiast from Xbhp from your city.

And please tell us what kind of noise exactly do you hear? Engine noise increased? Ringing bells? rattling parts? What exactly do you hear?

Kindly a post a video/with audio of the sound.
It could be as simple as something from the tool kit that's fallen in the compartment under the seat and creating a clatter. or some nuts n bolts that might need tightening.
Or like could be one of the possibilities mentioned in the above reply by Samarth. And just one correction, at point 4 - Rodeo doesn't have clutch 'plates' but rather has a clutch with clutch 'shoes' (unlike the wet multiplate clutch's in motorcycles, this is a 'dry' one if i may use the word 'dry') and i doubt even a worn out clutch shoe(s) could cause abnormal noise (unless something is 'broken')

            Thanks for the replies...
I have checked the engine oil level and it seems to be okay. But is Transmission oil that is mentioned in owners manual as sae 140 (and change in every 12k kms).Any way to check those??

Let me check the others mentioned above and will be in touch shortly.

            @Samrath:
I feel engine sound is increased. usually at speeds above 45 kmph engine seems to be ultra smooth. But now I can feel the vibrations of the engine as speed increases.

              1. Your cylinder gets to breathe more air due to less air being filtered
              2. Cylinder gets more pollution & if you're lucky enough some insects in addition to AF mixture
              3. More frequent visits to ASC yielding towards better relationship
              4. Nice education & frequently get to see parts like cylinder head, valves, carburetor
              5. If you're a smoker, Scooter can also give you a good company
              6. Finally you'll be awarded with new cylinder+piston kit of-course your donation to ASC will be rewarded with a suitable certificate called BILL
