    Cleaning Foam filter

    Hai,
    Thanks for solving my first problem related to my rodeo.
    Now I am here with some doubts regarding foam filters.My mahindra rodeo is having company fitted foam filter.Till this date (2 years from purchase) I used to give my vehicle to ASC in every three months and get serviced.Recently i had some problem with engine sound and that was due to clogged air filter.I tried to clean it as told in owners manual, and the problem was almost rectified.But i had my last service @ASC in just 2000kms back.

    My questions are:
    1. Actually in what frequency should i clean and replace my foam filters?
    2. Is there any suitable upgrade for foam filter (ie like UNI) ??
    3. what is the correct method of cleaning foam filters(Happy to see pictures)?
    4. I have used diesel to clean and 10w30 engine oil to soak my filter. what are other options?

    Foam filter on the Pulsar is supposed to be replaced every 10k km. Its cheap (in case of Pulsar) so some people do get it replaced more often.

    There is no cleaning interval as such. You can get it cleaned at every service OR by yourself, anytime you want. There is no such thing as an over-clean air filter.

    Search around for cleaning options. I usually clean my bike's foam air-filter with soap and water (solution of tide + vim liquid + water) and then dry in a clean place. Oiling can be done using any oil. I use chain lube / 2T oil.
    Advice is a form of nostalgia.
    Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      I would suggest cleaning it every 1000km if you ride/park under dusty conditions. Or a safe limit would be 2000-2500km(equivalent to every service).
      Replace the foam filter's every 10-14k kms. depending on its condition (i.e. foam disintegrating)

      Diesel/kerosene is ok to clean the filters, but use ep90 gear oil instead of engine oil.

        1) clean foam air-filter every 2000 kms max . every 1500kms is better for our dusty air . ( agree fully with s1d ) .
        2) replace when it is torn, disintegrating or otherwise visibly damaged .
        3) clean with kerosene and dry throughly . you can wash it in warm detergent-water and then plain water after that . If wet washed , dry throughly by hanging on a clothes-line in sun for a day .
        4) oil with 90 gear oil . 2T oil or 20w50 or 20w40 motor oil is ok if you already have some handy . (10w30 is too thin and runny for this purpose) .
        5) if you let the ASC or mechanic do it in your absence , they use petrol to clean (your petrol) and all kinds of bad handling - your filter will die early .

        tip - it is nice to have two sets of the air-filter foam element . then you can oil and fit the fresh one on the bike and keep riding , while you clean the dirty one at leisure and cycle it again . that is what I do .

        Cannot tell the exact procedure for your filter since you've not posted any pics but this is the procedure for my Splendor's . You should get an idea from it I think ...

        Uni filters are foam filters , everyone is upgrading to foam air-filters worldwide - so what do you want to upgrade to ?

                For after market air filter such as UNI , k&n etc .. A recharger kit or cleaning kit are also available . Which r many manufacture by same air filter company . after market air filter do perform well compared to the stock .
