  • Help regarding carb rejetting of FZ-S

    Hello,

Here comes the million dollar question

I have a 20000 km old FZ-S fitted with a NGK Iridium spark plug and a K & N air filter. The k & N model is # YA1611 (got it thru a friend in US for $ 35 as it not yet launched in India..checked with the Distributor for India already). This is a dedicated one designed only for 153cc Yamaha exclusively. Neither the universal Round shaped one (RC 1060), nor the one used commonly for Pulsars(BA-2201). Pls see @ K&N YA-1611 - Performance Filters, Replacement Air Filter

I just removed the stock air filter and put the new K&N; it is designed in such a way that it is just a plug and play to the air filter box. No modifications required.

The query is: I have not done any re-jetting/re-tuning as of now. But I am feeling as if the engine (carb) requires some adjustment for optimal performance. But confused on how to do it ?

    I have read somewhere (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post417901

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Fz-16 uses 26mm CV carburettor with it's own designed TPS sensor manufactured by Mikuni
        112.5
Both main jets and pilots jets can be changed. But first try with main jet

Main jets can be changed by just removing bottom four screws of the carb and unscrewing the main jet but it is advised to do this from a good mechanic. He may take charges from Rs. 40-100

Mechanic interested in tuning and race bike mechanics

        Yeah people say it's worthy.

The higher the jet size, the richer the mixture and the boost in performance
Not very well informed in this matter. Top speed will increase not very much because of same gearing ratios, sprocketing might change the top speed. Others will well knowledge can explain.

Until the AFR is right, there won't be any problem with the engine but you will have to compensate on mileage.

Try with 115 size jets of unicorn, then we have 117.5 jets of Hero honda Achiever and Pulsar and avenger 200. Before buying a main jet make sure you can read the size on the main jet. vendors don't have much knowledge about jets. 117.5-120 sizes are very difficult to get. Just have a try
        Let others add

        I appreciate your sincere advice.

Re: Help regarding carb rejetting of FZ-S

          Hello
I AM USING 117.5 MAIN JET OF MIKUNI
THERE IS A POWER BOOST. INITIAL PICK UP IS GOOD.
TILL 90KMPH I LOVE THE FEELING
I CAN SAY THE MAIN JET UPGRADE IS SATISFACTORY
I EVEN UPGRADED MY PILOT JET.
BUT I HAD TO GIVE UP ON MILEAGE .
          FROM 36-38 KMPL
          I AM GETTING 30-32 KMPL
          THIS IS IN CITY
HIGHWAYS FIGURES ARE YET TO BE OBSERVED
WELL IF YOU ARE A PERFORMANCE SEEKER
          THEN SURELY DO THIS
BUT IF MILEAGE ALSO PLAYS A ROLE
          THEN DONT GO FOR IT.

MY FZ HAS RODE FOR 29000 KMS
          IRIDIUM SPARK PLUG OF NGK
          K&N FILTER
          AND A FREE FLOW EXHAUST
