  • Confused!! RTR180 Drinking oil.

    Hi all,
I wanted to get some advice from people here. My bike Apache RTR 180 which i bought in march this year has a problem lately. The engine oil level is decreasing, around 500ml of oil was decreased after some 1900-2000 kms after my 3rd service. My third service was done after driving 2800 kms between 2nd and 3rd service and on 3rd service only 400 ml oil was obtained. The mechanic asked me to get it serviced and check the level again after some 1500 kms. So here i am stuck..
Also there is no coloured smoke from the exhaust of the bike and no leakage from crank case is visible. I'm still wondering where is the oil going, do i need to get the cylinder kit changed.
I have been using the oil provided by TVS, tru premium 10w30 grade oil.
pls i need a shifu to come up and help me with this problem!!!!

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Before you unscrew or replace any parts, I'd suggest you to try a different grade of oil i.e. 20W40 & see if the problem still persists.

Hi Deepanshu , welcome to xbhp .
They gave you a little booklet with your bike ? It's the owner's manual , read it and see what it says about oil . Follow the mechanic and observe the oil loss over a few more cycles , should there be any . Keep an eye on the oil level (i.e check it every weekends) . If you find the level to be below minimum mark , top it up to correct level . Read the owner's manual about oil .

Check oil level daily via dip stick/ check window. There can also be some leakage. Oil consumption/ disappearance is way too severe for a new bike. Try claiming warranty. Don't wait too much.

If exhaust smoke check fails, check for oily black carbon deposit at the exhaust tip to know if oil is being burnt ....
