  • Fazer 153 2011, help needed

Guys i am new to this forum, but i am surely proud to part of this "Encyclopedia" of bikes.

I live in dhaka,BD. Bought a Fazer cybergreen 2011. The bike engine was run in properly and services done.
For the first 1300kms i only stuck to Yamalube mineral 20w40 and changed oil thrice. i was looking for FS oil
but its not avilable in BD at all. i used a korean KIXX SS 20w50 oil till 1700kms. Then i got my hands on
Mobil 1 racing 4T 10w40 FS oil. And my problems start here... The bike engine was in supreme condition until then.
After 100 km in the odo using the Mobil 1 the bike was performing better but the there was some minor clattering
sound started to come out of the engine when it was hot, say after running 20-30km. Then after 400Kms on this
oil the sound was very much apparent, even at idle in neutral. The sound is at its max around 4300-5000rpm.
The engine felt very harsh, clattering as if there are some loose nots put in the engine by someone, sounds like the
piston hitting hard. Have i damaged my engine ??? i drained the oil at 400km and put Valvoline 4t premium SS 20w50
but the sound is there and bugging me. I1 thing i need to mention here is with the KIXX and Mobil1 i was using an IRDIUM plug
meant for R15, i didnt have any problem with the KIXX but with the Mobil1. Here in BD the weather is always hot
and very humid. And one last question, can i use a K&N stock replacement filter in my bike? will it worsen the matter?
Guys and Bike Gurus i need your help and advice very badly. Thanks in advance.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

K&N Filter Wont Alter Your Problem's But Will Improve Your Performance In Terms Of Power And Average And Will Affect The Bike's Warranty So Dont Remember To Take It Off Before Service
I Myself Own A Fz But Havent Faced Any Such Problem!!!

I would highly recommend that you get the engine opened and checked once at yamaha SVC. You used a very thin grade of oil on your ride when the recommended grade is 20W 40/50. SO yes there is a possibility that your engine internals may have got damaged.

          Have you checked your tappets?
They make a bit of noise and need to be adjusted.

            Cheers,
Thanks, can you please elaborate where the problems could be due to the thin oil.
            Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, can you please guide me how to check the tappets and adjust them, preferably with pictures.
When the engine is cold, it runs super smooth with good power, when it gets hot after a ride of few
kilometers then the noise steps in and engine feels a bit harsh and stressed, and more so when with
a pillion. I am really worried.
            Your help is greatly appreciated.

Do you think my exhaust valves are a bit tighter?
Because one thing to note here is that sound is fine when the engine is cold and just started, so the noise steps in as the engine starts to heat
and at its max after running some kilos. Do you agree with my guesswork? or think it is the opposite?
What do you suggest i should do?
I am having sleepless nights !!!!

Search and download the workshop manual for the FZ16.
go to the engine page and check the clearances. Set them first then start trouble shooting from there.
                Check timing chain tension also.
Check the oil by rubbing it between your fingertips (cold) from the dipstick.
Check the correct heat range sparkplug is being used.

have a yamaha service center check your vehicle , cross check all the points mentioned above.

Timing chain tension in my bike is an auto tension type, can i tighten/loosen it manually with the existing
auto tension mechanism. I had been to the service center, they have tightened my valves especially the
exhaust, the bike feels very jammmed as if i am pulling the bike with the brakes slightly pressed. They set
my valves to 0.08mm for inlet and 0.10 for the exhaust.
