  • Need some details regarding fitting rear disc on RTR160 rear drum model

Hey guys, I have a 2011 RTR160 rear drum model. I'm thinking of fitting rear disc system. I know I could have opted for it for just 2.5K more at the time of purchase. But my riding style was a lot different back then. I would have had more cons in the rear disc like easier rear wheel lockups etc for that riding style. But I accelerate really hard now. I visit 7k-8k frequently. So, I feel like I need to have a rear disc for safety. From what I could gather, I'd need to replace the rear wheel rim. A mech said that I'd need to change the swingarm too. But from what I have seen, both the rear disc and rear drum models have the same swingarm. So, I need some experienced members' words regarding the parts that I'd need to buy and their pricing details. Also, will I void the warranty as I'll only be using TVS designed RTR160 parts? Any other thing that I'd need to be aware of before going for the upgrade? Thanks in advance.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Thanks for the approval.
From what I have gathered, the following are the major components required,
      1. Rear wheel rim - Rs.??
      2. Disc plate - Rs.1000/-
      3. Brake pad - Rs.400/-
      4. Disc calipers - Rs.??
      5. Master Cylinder - Rs.??
      6. Hose - Rs.??
      7. Is swingarm change really needed as I'll be using the already existing RTR160 rear disc setup and not the setup from some other vehicle??
      8.??

      Brothers help me out please...

hmm....well you need to do a mod on the swing arm or really go on changing the swing arm to rtr 180's to fit the rear disc mount

Just found out from TVS service center about the very same mod. According to them it is going to cost in addition of 12K and they refuse to do the mod anyway.

Will try out some other avenues too (though I trust myself more than local mechanics), and let you know in case I find some info. Did you scrap the idea already?

No need to go to RTR180's swingarm IMO. The RTR160 Rear disc model/ RTR160FI's swingarm should be good. I observed an RTR FI's swingarm during service. I couldn't find any difference apart from a hole for the fluid hose. May be I didn't observe it close enough.

I haven't scrapped it yet. But the amount seems a bit too much for what it's worth.(I could have got it for 2.5K more at the time of purchase. I regret it) The SVCs don't seem to have much idea about it. If any member experienced with this is ready to do guide, I'll do it myself by getting the spares. It will definitely cut some costs too. For e.g, the swingarm purchase can be cut if the only difference is the hole. Please let me know if you gather any more info.

You need to modify the swingarm or rather replace it with the 180's

Heard that the swingarm costs around 800. So, will change it. But with RTR160 RD's. If I use 180's, I'll need to change chain set as well.

BTW, the following need to be bought AFAIK. Please add if anything is missing.
                1. Rear Alloy ~ 4K
                2. Disc Plate ~ 1K
                3. Disc Caliper ~ ? (1K??)
                4. Brake Pads ~ 0.4K
                5. Master Cylinder Assembly(including fluid reservoir and hose) ~ ? (<3K??)
                6. Swingarm ~ 0.8K

It is possible without any mods at all. You just need to get the swingarm, the spacers, washers, the swingarm roller bearings, the little nuts and bolts. For more info go to the nearest PBK and ask for the parts catalogue and buy everything seen on the swingarm page. Do not miss out any little nuts or bolts.
