    Maintenance for chain in Pulsar200NS

    Hello Frnds,

    Recently i went to a garage in Karve nagar, Pune for my frnds bike servicing.
    The Mechanic over there told that in open chain type systems, the chain life does not exceed more than
    10k Kms.

    In my case i regularly keep the chain lubricated but i still have doubts about it.

    Pls suggest what more i can do to maximize the life of the chain.

      I'm just an amateur biker, but i can help you with some points.
      1. Keep your o ring chain well lubricated. Especially during monsoons. Regular interval lubing is recommended.
      2. Use only good lubes, Yamalube, Tru spray are good ones considering cost and usage.
      3. Some use ep 90 or WD 40 whenever you don't have an o - ring chain lube, Never use "used engine oil".
      4. Adjust the slackness, never run with a loose chain bad for the chain/ transmission and its noisy/ annoying.
      5. For cleaning a dirty chain you can use kerosene or diesel. I still am not sure about that coz I've read kerosene and diesel affect those o rings in your chain.

        +1 to Ash_win's post above!

        You can use diesel to clean your chain. Here's where WD40/Zorrik comes in handy. Helps remove hidden dirt from unreachable places. Make it a habit of lubing your chain once in 15 days or 500 kms. This interval reduces drastically during monsoons. I lube once a week during monsoons.
        I generally use ROLON chain spray (140/- for 150 ml) or CHAMPION chain spray (475/- for 500 ml).
        After the spray I put a coat of grease on the chain as well.

        You may/may not follow the grease-related funda, but ensure your chain never runs dry. BTW, with proper maintenance you can see your chain live past 16-18k kms as well. Its all about maintenance.

          How will i get to know that the chain as come to its end of life cycle?
          Is it by the slackness in the chain or the noise??

            Hi buddy.. Whenever the chain slacks it has to be tightened using the chain tensioner (part encircled in RED).. So you or the service center will be using this part to tighten the chain.. Now once this reaches its highest/max marking i.e. #28 (enclosed in purple) and thereafter the chains slacks, with use, then there is no way to tighten further and that would be the end..

            Please correct me if I am wrong

                The mount mount just left outside the red circle, right? Thats for the saree guard, which has been removed from this bike ... NS doesn't come with full chain cover

                      Ah there you go.. Its called a snail cam.. for some reason I just couldn't remember this name.. Thanks for pointing it out..

                      Already at half.. woah.. How many kms has your bike done till date?
