    Spark Plug hole stripped and leaking gas

    Hello.

    I own a Bajaj Discover 100. I found today that my right side spark plug is not tight and while running it is leaking gas. When i took out the plug i found a broken spring type ( may be the thread) came out with the plug and the plug is not tightening any more. i can fit it but its not getting tight. and when starting the bike gas is leaking from that side.

    What to do?

    Do i need to change the head or is there any way to fix.

    Please advise me also the repairing cost.

      If your bike is under warranty, Pls take it to BASS and get it fixed. The fixing is not simple, as you've described, seems like the spark plug terminal along with the ceramic insulator is broken. The entire head assy has to be removed to get the plug out, hope without any damages...

      Also never Over tight the spark plug, end result is what you're facing now. Also one good thing in your case is, being a Twin-spark engine your bike is still running (Hope it flutters though because of losing compression) if it was a single spark one, then happy walking...

        A picture will help here.
        To make things clear; Is the plug body intact? Was the springlike thing that came out coiled around the threads of the plug?

        Sounds like a botched and slipped helicoil job. From what i gather, your bike has already has slipped plug threads and it was repaired by inserting a helicoil. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threaded_insert] If that has slipped as well, you may have no option but to change the head.

        I hope he issue is what 'dual disk 200' thinks it is. a new head will not be very cheap.

          Hey thanks all. Today i went to a bike shop and fixed it. They removed the head and inserted a new thread ( most probably helicoil) .

          The whole process costed me
          Rs. 300 labor
          Rs. 10 for packing
          Rs. 250 welding + thread inserting with machine
          Rs. 134 for two spark plugs ( mine were little old)
          Total : 694

          Bike is running again. no problem detected till now.

            Glad to hear that this has been fixed. From now-on please be very careful when you are tightening the spark plugs. tighten with you hand till it does not budge and only then use the box spanner. This way there is very little danger of you over tightening or damaging the threads of the Head. Your break up would be very helpful. Could you please share more details about the kind of welding that was done and if possible a few snaps of the old coil/spring that came loose and the new job.

              Another thing i would like to add is that you really dont need a lot of torque to tighten the sparkplugs. the plugs come with a deformable washer and that does the sealing. you just need enough torque to prevent it from coming loose with vibrations.

              I have heard some old racing teams used to use a helicoil all engine bolts because its stronger than the ali of the engine cases. Of course, quality of ali casting has improved considerably now.
