  • RE - TBTS - Lighting and Starting Issues

I live in Chennai and ride a RE - Thunderbird TS.

    1. It has stock light bulbs and now I would like to change it to 55/60 W. I understand Philips has Night Breaker bulbs, which I'm using in my car. Is that suitable for my motorcycle?

    2. My battery is in good condition, but I'm not able to 'self start' the motorcycle. Every time I need to kick it to start. What could be the trouble?

I need a good auto-electrician in Chennai to get my motorcycle checked for above 2 points. Any suggestions?

more information is required to troubleshoot your problems, and it is a nice idea to first introduce yourself in relevant section.

OK. Let me introduce. I'm 40+, lives in Chennai and have been introduced to RE's year back, though have been riding KB-125 and other scooters for quite some time. Ever since I started to ride my TBTS, I'm hooked to it and have done couple of short distance weekend rides (around 300 kms) with my colleague in office. I'm not registered to any Bullet club - that's not my cup of tea, given my occupation and other engagements. However, I ensure I ride my RE-TBTS each day to office, unless the sky is opened. Hope this helps!

Coming back to the main issue: I have not changed the stock bulbs but for most of my night rides back from office, I need more luminescence which I do not get from the stock bulbs. I'm toying with the idea of changing the bulbs to something which does have more throw - like Osram (not Philips) Night Breaker. But I want the bulb to be legally compliant.

About starting - I have a battery which is well maintained, but still it won't start the engine. When I depress the starter, all I hear is a 'click' sound from starter coil. This is same for a hot or a cold engine.

BTW - I read your thread on Headlight focus. Good one and thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of sharing it with my friends, of-course with all credits to you!

          welcome to xBhp..!!

yes, osram night breaker & philips xtreme power are available for bikes in 60/55 watts and are legally ok.

the click sound from starter is that of relay. may be some loose connection is there or can be anything else, get it checked from a good mechanic or ASS.

i am glad you liked that thread on headlight focus.
