  • CBR 250R Speed Issue

    Hey All,
I just want a clarification that if I carry another person on my rear seat does it affect the maximum speed of my bike? Actually I was on a highway its straight and open and I can't pass 124Km/hr. Is this because am carrying someone on my back? cause CBR 250R should do 135Km/hr atleast in 6th gear. Well may be its a studpid question but am new to these things and I need some answers!

One more question what tires should I use if I want to replace the stock tires, that'll increases my handling?

    Topic Approved.

See, if your bike has been properly serviced & maintained, it should perform well. Yes, a pillion at the back definitely decreases your top speed for most bikes. But it should not be as low as 124 kmph.

The reasons may be: either you got some modification done that's affecting your top end, OR maybe you didn't have long enough stretch on the highway OR maybe you didn't rev it well (redline) thus resulting in lower momentum.
For your exact situation, the better way is to drop down to 5th gear, go full throttle to get some acceleration, then shift again to 6th and continue accelerating.

Generally speaking, in the modern world, tyres are a small part of handling, so you might see minor improvements through a tyre change. The major components affecting handling are chassis(frame) and the suspension. I'm not too sure how the CBR's Continental Tyres are, although the general reports are very average.

For your top speed problem, if you feel there's really a problem with the bike, then do share some more symptoms & details, so that xbhpians can understand the problem and help you...

it takes time if you have a pillion and pulling in 6th gear.. it wont ever push beyond 130..

6th gear is very tall in cbr for 25 hp...

keep proper chain slack , tyre pressure as recommened and pull in 5th gear upto 130 odd and slot in 6th then...

above 130 get tucked in.. dont have much hopes on speed runs with a pillion

The max i could reach was 151 double seat with me 65kg and my friend 60kg. Not fully crouched but a little and i maxed out at 151. I think 124 is too low.

Stock tyres provided by honda (continental) are pretty good and stable at high speeds and provide good grip during rains. Try IRC tyres, they are one of the best tyres.

124kmph on a CBR 250r is low- but keep in mind that top speed is affected by various factors.

Air resistance, bike condition, wieght and road surface type, weather, the initial thrust and various factors.

and try as Aargee suggested .

Time & again I kept telling this in CBR 250R thread, but I was refrained from posting there, anyway to help you understand, there're several things...
                    - Which gear
                    - Which stretch
                    - Wind direction
                    - Road gradient
                    - What RPM
                    - Vehicle condition
                    - Weight of the rider

On 5th gear, the bike can certainly do 139+ even if the road is inclined upward VISIBLY. On flat roads, it can do 142 for sure (I checked even 145) on 5th gear. Since 6th is tall, it's hard to conclude things. Between the Vishakapatnam - Rajamundry - Vijayawada stretch, it's hard to cross 145 in 6th gear with a 77 Kg rider (not sure when I did if the wind was supporting me), at the same time, with the same weight of rider, it was possible to do 152 between Kishengarh to Jaipur stretch. This is why I keep saying any gear until 5 is reliable to check the speeds, but not 6.

Pls let me know if I need to elaborate more. Tks.

you are shocked with 151 on cbr without pillion bet it can do 161 on speedo because even p220 does 150 easily..you just need a empty stretch nd red line every gear then it flys past 150 mark btw red lining in top gear is just awesome...

i have tried speedruns on the best of roads though with heavy cross winds.. but 151 with pillion .. i doubt it.. cbr does not have enough juice..

and stock cbr wont ever redline in top gear unless on a slope and good tail wind.. still skeptical..

bikes in mint condition can do it afaik however my 220 needs some slope think it starts redling @ around 150kmph~

don't ever try top speed tests on a windy day...it should easily go 160kmph without pillion don't know the max speed though..even p220 does 141kmph with pillion(reported by friend) however my ride feels like it hits a revlimiter @137kmph(with pillion) tested (70kg rider, pillion 68kg& also with 82kg) no of time even in a big slope....check for the chain slackness, tyre pressure, dirty filter maybe..
